Mobile Service for Travellers

Kia Ora my friends from NZ

I am from Australia and planning to visit NZ next month and do a road trip to cover south island.

I am after some cheap deal for mobile plan to help me stay connected and use gps while on the move.

Is kogan a good opton or any other service provider

  • I use Kogan and it has good coverage.

  • Kogan is fine but remember there is no eSIM option in NZ so you will need a physical SIM.

    • Yeah SIM card has to be sent to a physical address. Unless you get it in Australia first, then making sure that SIM will work in NZ. Perhaps you can do a research if your aussie telco provides good roaming rates. I know NZ telco's roaming rates are incredibly expensive.

  • Best value of the money considering coverage as well is Skinny which use Spark network. Best coverage specially on the road like Telstra in Au.

They got travel sim plan but I think normal plan is actually better. You can just purchase it as one off.

  • Absolute cheapest is probably Warehouse Mobile. They only sell them at their store though.

  • Switch your aussie number over to a Felix eSIM and use their $20 international roaming deal. 100 Minutes, 100SMS, 4GB data. 12 month expiry. THere's even a referral code system here where you get something like $25 back on your first bill.

You can get a new Aussie number if you prefer. Price is the same.

    Previous deal post here.

  • Grab a Prepaid sim from the local supermarket (and a voucher) no ID requirements in NZ.
Esim is not super common still so usually requires the human touch to get one.

  • I have been using the Spark travel $79 and partner with One $59 (Vodafone) both seem as good with iphone15. I was going to switch after 3 months is up to Kogan or 2degrees or skinny. There are times when I haven't had good reception even on the mid north island.
