    Anyone have experience with the Netcomm NF18 MESH modem? Was offer this when I request to connect to a 2.4ghz WIFI to connect to IoT devices, free swap with current Netgear Orbi 6 RBR350

      No idea on Netcomm, but you can disable 5ghz wifi on Orbi, if you connect to it via browser. I believe that option is not available via the app. I had orbi couple of years back and had done that to connect the security camera & EV charger which won't connect.

      Once's it gets connected you can enable it back and it works fine.

      Edit: Steps even though it is for older orbi, it should be pretty much similar.

        Thanks mate! My IoT devices connect to 2.4GHz automatically, while all other devices in the house, including phones and laptops, default to 5GHz. If I connect my phone to 2.4GHz and then re-enable 5GHz, will my phone automatically switch back to 5GHz?

          Yes. This is just temporary change so that you can connect your IOT devices. Switching between the bands is done by your orbi. So it should all be fine once you re-enable 5Ghz.

            @ace310: Sorry for the confusion. I meant that I want my phone to stay on 2.4GHz so I can control my IoT devices at any time.

              @doubledippps: You don't need your phone on 2.4Ghz all the time. Once you have your IOT devices connected, you will be able to access them just fine from your phone irrespective of which band it is connected to.

              Once you disable 5Ghz, everything will be working on 2.4Ghz. Make all the new connections with IOT devices. Later when you switch 5Ghz back on, everything will be working at it was before. This time you will be able to see your IOT devices as well.

              I hope that makes it clear.

                @ace310: Thank you for this! I’ll follow the steps and try setting it up again to see if it works. Previously, I was able to control my IoT devices with my phone under another router supplied by Contact. However, after switching to the Orbi 6 modem, I lost the connection and received a 'connection failed' error. That's why I thought I might need to connect to 2.4GHz to control it.

                  @doubledippps: In most cases it should be fine. By 'Connection failed' error, do you mean the device stopped working or just you were not able to connect to it from your phone. What device is it?

                    @ace310: It's a Panasonic heat pump that uses the Comfort Cloud app. After switching to Orbi, I'm unable to control or connect to the heat pump with my phone. I tried to re-setup the device, but it shows a connection failure (also mentioned to make sure smartphone is connected to a 2.4GHz band wireless LAN).

                        @ace310: Yes heat pump connected to 2.4ghz automatically, but I am unable to setup it up now due to my phone connected to a 5ghz.

                        @ace310: Thanks, mate! I followed your ways to connect my phone to the 2.4GHz and set up the heat pump. Just like you said, I don't have to stay on 2.4GHz to control it afterward!

      As someone in a discord group with multiple ex-slingshot employees, they riff hard on the NF18 (and the mesh variant) so hard that they used it to help people break their contracts with slingshot without getting early termination fees.

    Or just get the Xiaomi AX6000 for around or less than that price on Aliexpress. I remember Xiaomi routers being sold at PBTech before and were pretty pricey. I have the AX3600 and AX6000 and they both perform really well, great range too. Never had issues with them and from memory I think you can chuck a custom OpenWRT firmware on them too, haven't bothered though.

      Personally I wouldn't want a Chinese branded router. Made in China is as far as I'll go.

        I wouldn't either, but that's why you check the logs to see where the traffic is going.

        Not to mention that there are plenty of other ways for them to "spy" on you. Xiaomi phones with MIUI for example, some of the traffic goes to Chinese servers. But that's why you use custom ROMs like Xiaomi.EU or whatever. Some people go as far as to de-Google their Android device completely.

        I get privacy is important, but everything is trying to spy on you these days. Google, Facebook, Microsoft, they all do it. Having too much paranoia isn't a good thing.

    I think 6E is the way to go on a budget right now. There are too many OEM routers running 160MHz bandwidth on 5 GHz spectrum.

    You can’t even run 40MHz on a 5GHz without excessive interference.
