Youtube Premium Turkey family plan - any workarounds?

Currently using the Turkey family plan for wife and kids mobile devices, TV and iPad etc. paid for with Wise. Looks like they're finally cracking down on it. Anyone know of any current working methods to get a cheaper family plan other than the $30 they're asking for here?

Email I received earlier:

        • How are you going with this? I finally got the email :(

@ABCDEFG: Turkish credit on Google Pay is a no go. Google too good at detecting location (even with VPN). Yet to try with a DNS service. My payment typically goes out tomorrow. Got a Wise Turkish account ready but doubt it’ll work.

            • @Wakrak:

How did you get a Turkish Wise account? Given the hassle of setting up my Wise account in NZ (AML stuff), I am surprised you managed that.

@Alan6984: Should clarify, an account with Turkish currency.

            • @Wakrak: Keen to give this a crack but the only apple device I have access to is a Gen 5 iPod Touch 😅

@ABCDEFG: 116 TRY taken out of my account today

                • @Wakrak: Interesting. I'll set up the same and see how I get on.

                • @Wakrak: Did you set it up as primary or backup?

                  • @ABCDEFG: Primary

                    • @Wakrak: Cheers. I've set up the same, will find out on the second of next month.

@ABCDEFG: This is working for now, cheers Wakrak.

                          @ABCDEFG: Just got this message

Your YouTube Premium membership will not renew automatically and you’ll lose your YouTube Premium membership benefits on Dec 23, 2024. YouTube Premium memberships based in Turkey require a form of payment issued in Turkey.

                          • @Wakrak: P.S. Merry Christmas from YouTube!

                          • @Wakrak: Is this message from payments with a Wise card? Or Turkish Apple gift cards?

                            • +1

@Martz5: I’m using a Wise card at the moment

                          • @Wakrak: Got the same. Had been using WestPac master card and wise.

                          • +1

@Wakrak: Yep, I got it too. Guess I need to get my hands on an iOS device.

                            • @ABCDEFG: I'm going to go the NZ route. Still not bad. Six members brings it down to $60 a year. $5/month each.

    • In my email it says "To maintain your membership, please update your form of payment to one issued in Turkey before 21 November 2024". So I guess they will only start to enforce it from 21st?

      • Oh yeah, it does say that. I did update my address and added Turkish Lira on wise card so hopefully that works…

        • I read elsewhere comments from people who were already using Wise cards getting hit with the same notice as the rest of us. So, it is doubtful that will work unfortunately.

          • @CrusaderNZ: Yup, happened to me, email notice to update payment to a Turkish method and using a Wise card.

… added Turkish Lira on wise card so hopefully that works …

No harm in trying I guess, but I am doubtful that will help.

The merchant cannot see what currencies you have 'on' your card - it is just a Visa card to them, and it is the merchant that specifies the currency that will be used in the transaction (they might give you an option at the point of sale, but they stipulate it at the time the transaction is processed).

Wise will pull a Turkish Lira charge from your Turkish Lira wallet if you have any, and from another wallet if you don't, but that will be invisible to the merchant.

I suspect that the problem is that the Visa card number identifies it as a non-Turkish credit card, and Google is going on that.

      • You were right. It didn't go through :(

I had a payment go through for me for November, but I received an email today saying my Premium will stop next month now. Oh well I got an extra month, will go the revanced route once it’s over since the price is going up then anyway

I had success with the Apple ID method that some users have mentioned above - specifically, I followed these step-by-step instructions: https://www.vpn-tools.com/youtube-cheaper/turkey/
However, I used India instead of Turkey as for some reason it didn’t let me create a Turkish account. Bought a gift card off Amazon India.
Took about 15 minutes to set up.

Just a heads up, there are reports of Apple deactivating those accounts on reddit. So don't put too much money in it to be on safe side.

Don't know how apple tracks this

      • Yes true, I only purchased (and used) credit for one month’s subscription so far. Someone who only needs an individual subscription could look into purchasing an annual YT membership (not available for family)

  • Got the dreaded email today. Family Plan in India for several years now. I'm giving in and going legit because all 4 of us in my family use YT Music and YT a lot. Going from ~$4 to $29.99 per month is a sting though!

That sucks, but that's too much of an increase for me - $48/year to $360/year.. that's like a 650% increase! It's going to be a pirates life for me I think, even though it takes more effort to setup on multiple devices

      • Just signed up to the student offer and it's $10.49/month. Not too bad I guess
