Mercury appearing to give out free lunches but ending up overcharging compared to market again.

Rates below showing additional weight in electricity supply charges for MERCURY would account for far more than the $15/month saving on broadband.
Definitely not worth it mercury. Offering cheap broadband to customers to make it back 5x on a fixed 12 month contract on the electricity.
Plus mercury have a heinous list of extra fees that are payable ' if required '- vague.

Below rates applicable to Rotorua region, note the percentage differences - percentage variance should be applicable to different regions.

Completely agree Chris. Wouldnt touch mercury with a stick on principle alone. Hate to think about how many people have been sweet talked with a ‘free’ fridge only to get fleeced monthly on the power bill itself.

i did the sums on the previous appliance ' gifts ' for committing to fixed term contracts - the appliance worked out ~30% more expensive than buying it retail from noel leeming or similar when compared to signing up with another utility retailer.

i did a forecast with mercury 3 month billing cycle usage data to compare 3 other companies against mercury through to the end of the mercury fixed term contract. the end result being you were paying for the appliance, plus another 30% for ' thanks ' to signing upto mercury.

        no free lunches with Mercury.

    • Appreciate your comparison Chris88. They don't seem to be too different for me in the Electra (Kapiti/Horowhenua) power region. I was a little surprised to see the difference in your region.

It's still quite significantly cheaper unbundled for me — via Slingshot's $58 300/100 fibre plan, and having Octopus Energy (I regularly compare using my actual usage with other potential plans like the two following).

    • reminds me of how trustpower used to play this game

  • With Contact if you choose the Good Weekend plan, broadband jumps from $80 to $85. Considering moving to another provider like Frank who seem cheaper for electricity. Can someone explain why broadband is $85.00 with Good Weekend Plan? Electricity rates are
    Daily Charge $1.20, Low User $.288 or 28.800 cents/kWh
