3050 is not really a gaming graphics card.

    • +4

Not sure why you were downvoted but yeah a 3050 is an entry-level card.

Laptop GPU's can also have a wide range of power, watts allocated to the GPU.
DO NOT expect to get the same performance from a desktop GPU with the same name!

I wasn't able to find a review or spec sheet that had the wattage listed, so buyer beware.

I feel like you are better off finding an extra $120 somewhere and getting the base Lenovo LOQ 15IAX9 thats currently 1529 on the lenovo site. The CPU and battery are slightly worse and it doesnt have the sd card reader but everything else is slightly better and it comes with a 4050 which is more equivalent to a 3060.

Theres also a 3.2% cashback on shopback for lenovo.

    • yep

    • depends on your needs. my prime interest here is 13700H.
Lenovo has 30% faster videocard and 30% slower CPU (12450HX)

    • and always pays to ask live chat for a discount, sometimes might get another 10% off

Would purchase but the 3050 is not great and having an AMD CPU would seal it.

Honestly for gaming these days, it's better to go Cloud gaming on a laptop (i.e Gamepass Ultimate), or a dedicated console, or a Steam Deck.
Low-end gaming laptops generally cost a lot, can be very hot or very loud and do not have the performance to justify them.

You need a specific use case for a 'gaming' laptop imo.

      • lol.

        • Hard to have a discussion around 'lol'.

          Above is only my opinion.
$1399 is a significant amount of money and not everyone is very well versed in hardware.
I know people will be shopping this Christmas for themselves or friends and family.
So wanted to shout out that bang for buck, there are other options that I think are better value for money.

  • This be only good for indie games, old games and maybe single player at 30fps.
For office work and stuff it's perfectly fine but then you can get cheaper and better for that

Unless you're in a rush I'd say save up and wait for the AMD ones with either Ryzen AI (Strix Point) and Ryzen AI Max(Strix Point Halo) or Next gen AMD's APU's (More budget friendly) coming out in 2025 for casual 1080p (indie games, old games and maybe single player upto 60fps. )

OR Next gen AMD CPU (Zen 4/Zen 5) & Discrete GPU (definitely want a GPU that has 8GB or more VRAM) for Actual gamer laptops
Intel is ok, but idk if the mobile variants have the cpu issue as 13/14th gen desktop did

  • Lol, 144Hz and RTX 3050.

Hope you like Counterstrike, Rocket League and Left 4 Dead if you want to use that display.
