  • Which voucher codes need to be used? Still stackable with UPGRADES24?

    • +1

Don't know yet as the sale isn't live at the moment.

Without this sale, UPGRADES24 works but can't confirm right now

    • Sometimes if you get in quick at the beginning of the sale, they forget to disable UPGRADES24. Sometimes their rubbish site works in your favour.

  • Worth keeping in mind that the Galaxy S25 Ultra is tipped to be launched on the 22nd of January

    • +1

do the trade-in again in January? :)

      • I recall with the S24 release you couldn't trade in the S23? Or it wasn't an option?

        • who knows, there is that risk but at the moment there is S24 option for trade in so an educated guest would be that there's going to be that option but can't confirm that

          • @spam: Bigger issue is that base prices will be a bit higher at launch I think. They do have their various bonuses and if these are worth it to you or you sell them you can get a quite good deal from what people have said. But I admit for me while I'm fine with buying a tradein for cheap, trying to sell the bonuses is a step too far since I'll probably never do it and then just end up paying a lot. And their bonuses are unlikely to be worth it to me,

Might be better to wait until September or something and then tradein you S24.

  • My wife’s s20+ is getting a bit slow now so might need to take a look at this. Thanks.

  • +1

Hopefully it'll be just as good as the recent sales, missed out and missus is needing a new phone too!

    • +1

same here!! I've been being told off from my other half and waiting ever since I missed out on pre-black friday sale last month!!!

Good stuff! I think these are the prices that were on August/September sale.
Of course that's assuming the code can be used

      • +1

I've been watching and waiting with my spreadsheet at the ready.

P.S how did you know about the sale? Or trade secret?

        • +1

Terms and conditions are out for it already.

        • +2

This afternoon when i checked the offer page there was the "flash sale" banner with all the bonus value. It's now been disabled but managed to get the link for the T&C

        • +2

I didn't realise that OP already put a link to the T&C's when I commented. But yeah, the t&c's often pop up on some of my Google searches before the sale has started.

          • @Wakrak: Yeah, the t&c link was on the offer page 2/3 hours ago but have now since been removed. So things could change but good chance that it is correct

    • If those calculations are correct, I traded my S 23 for $280 for an S 24, I traded my S24 for $40 for a S 24+ and now if I traded 24+ for an S24ultra Samsung will owe me $60

      • What happens when they owe you? Do you get a refund or do they just bottom it out at zero and you pay nothing?

        • No, I doubt it. I was just giving an example if I sold my 24+ tomorrow. If I did try, I would put in an accessory to use up the credit

          • @pdevonporf: Maybe store credit, im gna try tomorrow

            • @quote: Don't think you get store credit. Possibly you could add an accessory, otherwise you just don't get the full value. I'm think there may even be a minimum you need to pay but not sure.

              • @Nil Einne: Ill report my findings

                • +1

@quote: Found the T&C I was thinking of. Minimum is only $1 https://images.samsung.com/is/content/samsung/assets/nz/sams… But it does sound like you shouldn't get anything even for use on other devices in the same transaction

The total trade-in value cannot exceed the Purchase Price of Your New Samsung Device purchased Online with Samsung and the minimum Purchase Price of your New Samsung Device remaining after the trade-in value has been applied (as well as any other discounts) must be at least NZD$1

But given Samsung store's legendary quirks, who knows.

I've recalculated based on previous experience. Most prices are + $25

      Some assumptions:
Samsung Members 10% off applies to promo price
$250 Trade in applies before first purchase 10% - Seen this on EPP store previosuly

      • If you calculate the S24 Ultra 512GB (yes I know it's out of stock) with everything the same except only $500 instead of $600 for the flash tradein boost do you get $987.36? It's what I got for the pre-BF sale with everything the same including 20% except that then it was $500 instead of $600 for tradein.

Or if you have more time wondering if your calculations would match these:
        https://www.cheapies.nz/comment/242940/redir

For clarity those values are based 15% instead of 20% for everything. And $400 tradein instead of $500 for S24, $450 instead of $500 for S24+ and $500 instead of $600 for the Ultra. Others are the same except online exclusive is $50 more tradein.

        • Tried this, I get a "voucher is unavailable" error.

Perhaps i'll try and contact support tomorrow morning beforehand.

          • @ScottNeville: They've just issued a new voucher on the first of this month. You must have a Samsung phone with a Samsung account. You can't use the same phone and change the account unless you reset your phone.

            • @pdevonporf: I have a Samsung Phone w/ Samsung Account, but still facing issues. I contacted support and they are helping me sort things out now, but thank you for your reply!

              • @ScottNeville: If you don't have luck ask them for a YQZ code. These give 10% and seem to work the same as members generally but are not stackable with them. Previously they've given them out quite willingly, since you are a member and just having problems, hopefully they'll definitely give you one.

BTW, did you just get your Samsung members? Had the same issue when I did mine, started working in December when it was a new code and for some reason there were two offers for 10% (but could only claim one) although didn't try at the end of November last tried maybe 25 November or something.

                • @Nil Einne: The only thing I was offered was a 10% off code as a replacement for the members issue, and then an additional 5% one for the EPP/Edu store after I mentioned that I had access to that. Can't complain with extra % off the EPP store for a couple of minute chat.

I had that same thing with the two offers for 10% off, could only claim one but never used it whenever the last big FLASHNOV sale was up - and now it's listed as unavailable on my end. Weird.

                  • @ScottNeville: Out of interest did they give you a YQZ or YAO for the 10%?

                    • @Nil Einne: I was given a YQZ for the 10% and a VNN for the 5% EPP.

I know that my sister got a YAO from the members 10% when she had a look at redeeming hers.

                      • @ScottNeville: Ah yes the YQZ seem to be what support normally gives. AFAIK no difference from YAO although don't think this has been tested much. I now have both YQZ and YAO so could try a bit. Probably worth claiming your YAO next time and keeping a copy of it somewhere even if you don't plan to use it. I don't know how they expire but YQZ seem to last well past expiry.

You don't really have to be a member or anything to get YQZ at least historically, They've generally give them to me when I asked email support for discount codes, along with a SNN which gives $50 off $100 minimum (on limited items).

I've never gotten the EPP code but never really tried. I know when I ask for codes, they often ask if you are using EPP or standard store so I expect they might give out EPP codes quite willing too. I tried once but never got a reply but I suspect it was just lost somehow. (It was Black Friday time so probably quite busy.)

                        • @Nil Einne: I currently have a SNN sitting in the back pocket now from a few weeks back - and the support member did offer me another after completing the post-chat survey. Will be interesting to see if/when that comes through.

This is the first time I was ever offered that 5% EPP extra though, but can't complain with some extra money off. Will have to see what price I can get a phone down to tomorrow before deciding to buy.

                          • @ScottNeville: Would be good if even better deals on the EPP but I'm not hopeful. There's currently no sales on the main store but EPP still has one until 22 December. I'm thinking this means this sale will just be a general flash sale with no code required so if we get lucky can stack UPGRADES24+10%+SNN. (Pity they got rid of LOYAL50 which generally did stack.) But with an existing sale on EPP not sure they'll replace it. They could do a flash sale on EPP via FLASHDEC but EPP is already limited stacking so expecting it won't come out better even if they do.

                            • @Nil Einne: Will be interesting to see, I will have a look at both standard + EPP to see how things stack/what's available. Won't know until tomorrow.

          • @ScottNeville: Was that on the members app or shop app because I've just installed a new members app on my trade-in phone and it didn't work to start with but when I restarted the app the voucher came available

            • @pdevonporf: Members App, wasn't able to access it last time during FLASHNOV either. I know that I have the base 10% for first time app usage available, but for whatever reason I wasn't able to get the Members one. Thankfully it was quick and painless to get a different 10% off in chat.

What would be the cheapest phone to buy to trade in to make use of this offer?

    • Depending what you can find, iPhone 7 is the oldest iPhone they accept. Have a look through the Shop and see what models you can Trade. It will tell you their base value.

    • You can see on their website and try trade in and you'll find a list of accepted phones with their estimated value

    • iPhone 7 probably. I have a few, have sent you a DM

    • I've traded quite a few A04 Samsung's some brand-new and others trashed or secondhand good condition $110-$25. They have zero value, but I have got up to $ 850 Trade bonus for them and they've all gone through no trouble. They've got quite expensive on trademe now, trashed one's going for over $50. If I was after a particular phone in the sale that I wanted to keep, I would prefer to use a near new or good condition Trade rather than risk a rejection. Although I've even sent one with the wrong IMEI number and that went through, so I don't know if they even check the zero value phones.

      • Do $0 value phones get same trade-in bonus as working phones?

        • Yes, same bonus. The A04 has zero value, whether it's working or not. It's not like the televisions where they give it $200 trade-in on some working televisions but the ones that have zero value like a monitor I just traded I got $100.

    • From my recent experience with TradeMe iPhone 7 would likely be cheapest for an auction although always a risk given you have to buy in rush. However worst case you can get them for $130 or so buy it now. Then again your new phone is unlikely to arrive before Christmas and you have 7 days from then.

      • Great work, appreciate it.

What's the difference between the big Nov sale pre-Black Friday and this one tomorrow? About 5-10%?

        • I think it's around about the same but now you can only stack three codes and I don't think they're accepting the loyal50 code now. And they might block upgrades24 code but if you get in quick, sometimes they take a while to upgrade the site and also you can sometimes get bonus items from the previous deals as well.

          • @pdevonporf: You could only stack 3 codes in the pre black Friday sale as well. It was sometime before Labour day sale you could last stack more than 3 codes I believe. For that reason LOYAL50 is only relevant if UPGRADES24 isn't stackable although in any case SNN codes might or might not work as a replacement if you have them. Big issue is whether you can do UPGRADES24. You could in the initial 24 hours of the pre BF sale, but they disabled it sometime after they extended it.

Note if you can stack UPGRADES24 this will be better than even the early part of the pre BF sale for S24 line since tradein bonuses have gone up unless they've also gone down on the UPGRADES24. Unfortunately probably no chance to get the S24 Ultra 512GB but oh well.

            • @Nil Einne: What's SNN? Is that the survey voucher?

              • @xXDealHunter69Xx: I think they give it for surveys. But historically they've also just given it when you ask for discount vouchers via email. They have a standard email they seem to use where they give an SNN and YQZ (10% like the members 10% but not stackable with it so only useful if you don't have a members). Used to give an appliance one too (XZN) sadly that's no more last time I tried.

The email last time I tried was something like this: (A bit more fluff I cut out)

As a valued customer, I would like to offer you this gift that you can use in your next purchase at our online shop, https://www.samsung.com/nz/. Guidelines are below.

                Voucher Code: SNN-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX
                Criteria: Minimum spend $100
                Expiration: 31st December 2024

                Voucher Code: YQZ-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX
                Voucher amount: 10%
Criteria: To spend on Tablets, Wearables, Mobile Devices and TV on the Samsung Online Store
                Expiration:31st December 2024

Note that the vouchers seem to last well past expiration so if you did ever get an email or code worth trying. (But are only usable once I think.) Unfortunately their email support generally takes about a day so might be a bit difficult now. Might be better to try live chat although that seems a bit hit and miss.

            • @Nil Einne: Actually just realised FLASHDEC isn't mentioned in the T&C. So maybe this will be like the Labour day sale and won't need FLASHDEC. Makes sense since they have no ongoing sale so it's not conflicting with anything. I think that's one reason for the FLASH codes since when they've needed them there was another sale but Labour day they didn't need it and no flash code. Which means might be able to stack UPGRADES24+10%+SNN and could have stacked LOYAL50 if they hadn't killed it.

        • Assuming UPGRADES24/UPGRADEZ and 10% members is stackable, it's something under $100 for the S24 and S24 Ultra. And under $50 for the S24+. And around zero for the Fold and Flip except if you got an online exclusive it's around $50 more.

          Plus screen protectors or whatever.

For further clarity, AFAICT, main difference between this sale and the pre BF assuming UPGRADES24 and members 10% are stackable is that the tradein bonus is slightly increased. It was $400 for S24, $450 for S24+ both of which are now $500. And $500 vs now $600 for the S24 Ultra. I don't think the UPGRADES24 bonus has changed although someone else should confirm.

FoldZ and FlipZ doesn't seem to have changed except the $650 for online exclusive is not available probably because Samsung seems to be trying to promote their online store while simultaneously being unable to manage stock levels on it.

I initially mentioned LOYAL50 but then realised I made a mistake. During the pre BF sale LOYAL50 was around but IIRC no use. Since you can only stack 3, best bet at least initially was FLASHNOV+UPGRADES24+10% members which did work in the initial 24 hours. They later extended it but then disabled UPGRADES24 at some time.

  • Why annoying if I may ask?

    • I mean you're likely to be competing with quite a few others and you have limited time. So there's always the big question of how high should I go since if I wait too long might have to buy something in a rush with buy it now (probably about $130). And since it's probably too risky to chose a iPhone 7 as the tradein then send in something else even if it's valid given Assurant's issues, you're limited to whatever you chose. (Can't recall if iPhone 7 has capacities differences but that's another issue although frankly I'd just risk it.)

I decided was very likely I'd do something back on the beginning of November so started to look for a tradein then. So had less urgency and could keep my limit low and chose from any valid tradein. Although it also takes more of your time that way so also depends how much your time is worth to you.

  • Since this includes 50% off Samsung Care+ has anyone found it useful when they don't have existing contents insurance which covers their phone sufficiently (e.g. high excess or just none)? International reviews of Samsung Care+ seem quite bad. And Assurant has a fairly bad reputation for their tradein arm. For example, I'm sort of thinking that even if you have Samsung Care+ and send in your phone as a tradein 1-2 years time when it's still covered, they'll still want to take all your tradein bonus if they decide the screen or phone is damaged although logically they should just charge you the $99 or $199 excess at most. And trying to convince them otherwise will take a lot of work.
