Cheap Phones - All Opinions Welcome!

I've been looking to get a new phone for Dad who's currently running a busted up Samsung a03 in a old man wallet case.

I was thinking this Redmi Nite 13 at $394 would be a good option. Although tbh I'm more confident understanding which higher end phone is better (for the record the answer is pixel for value and usability) and would appreciate any opinions about phones sub $400.

Any experienced users of this phone want to chime in or are there suggestions at this price range that beat this phone?

Cheers

    The camera records at 1080p@30fps.
Its a hard one because you can get a cheaper phone like the moto g24 ,g34 for alot less but spend a bit more and get a better phone like the nord ce3.
I ended up with a pixel 7 since they extended update service.

An iPhone SE second gen might be in that price bracket ? Maybe the third gen?

    I’m thinking used / rebeelo.

Reasoning for suggestion is that a big single home button and a grid of buttons seems to do alright for my grandparents

The big button is great for older but i keep forgetting their eyes are not great so i always just recommend a big screen phone now.

Oh yes very good point. I think the big iphones with the home buttons are long discontinued.

    • Good idea except for being designated tech support for a retiree learning a new os haha

Can't comment on the redmi phone, but given your timing aligns with one of the sweet Samsung deal stacking promotions:

Sounds like one can get a S24FE for ~$450, with a $0 trade in.

Suspect Samsung is running down stocks a bit ahead of the launch of the S25 series in a few weeks.

  • I recently bought an redmi 13c as an emergency cheap phone because my daily phone stopped working.

For the price I paid (under $200) I thought it was an unbelievable phone. Good big screen, great battery life. Main camera was impressive.

My only issue was that it didn't have OIS so videos did come out a bit shaky. As I have a 3 year old this was a deal breaker for me.
Also the phone could be a little slow at times, but probs cos I'm a multi task user, and the phone had only 4gb ram and basic processor.
I think if I got the next phone up with slightly better specs I would have kept it for a lot longer.

I tried quite a few of the cheap-mid range phones in the stores and they all seemed really good as well.
