All I’ll say is that I have no association and I have found this on my own.
You’ll just have to trust me!

      • You’ll just have to trust me!

        I trust Le Grande Fromage!!!

Any chance you could source me a brid(g)e on the cheap?

      • You're a paperboy! I knew it!

Nothing to do with the mailer, that is his real auntie.

  • can u cook em in airfryer

    • +1

Techincally you can but its not very nice. The skin ends up being very dry.

There may be a way to overcome this but its pretty easy to just boil or pan fry them.

    • You can but I found this way and steaming not great in terms of the result where it can make the pastry dry and hard. The best was to boil but be careful not to overcook it. Pan-frying with oil after cooking it by boiling (for even cooking and better texture of the pastry) is also nice if you like the crispy deep-fried dumpling texture. Deep frying from frozen can cause oil bursts from the water/juice of the dumpling which is a bit scary although tasty haha.

      • i find steaming food very feminine so i try to stay away from that, i might boil for a bit then air fry with sum animal fat like lard

          How is steaming food feminine?

        • +1

Haha never perceived it that way but thanks I guess I get to feel pretty when steaming from now. Boiling a bit and then frying is definitely a good idea :)

  • picked up chicken one from wellington when I was there yesterday,
not available in woolworth Manawatu region

  • So much discussion on how to cook these.

My way is arrange them in a cold frying pan straight from frozen. Put some oil in and turn on high heat to start pan-frying. Mix some cornstarch in some water, dump it in and put a lid on to steam. After a few mins remove lid to dry out and crisp the bottom. You now have gyoza with wings.

    • Yes I sometimes also do something similar, but I got the dry&stale pastry edges when cooking these dumplings this way. Hence I boil then pan-fry. Maybe I haven't mastered the dumpling cooking skills yet haha.

      • You need to put a lid on to steam it with the cornstarch slurry, and don't overcook it.

        • Yes I cover it with a lid

    • so cook on one side only, no flipping?

      • There's no flipping necessary. You can search Japanese gyoza on YT to see how it looks like. Lid on, steam through, then remove lid to allow the water to dry and the slurry to crisp up.

  • Here's a great recipe for a dipping sauce to have with these.

Black vinegar is available from many Asian supermarkets. Also ginger keeps well in the freezer (in a bag). You can grate a little off while it's still frozen.

EDIT: I'm not associated w***worths, but can't seem to unselect.

    • Fixed. You originally associated yourself in 2023

      • Thanks. Appreciate the unassociation :)
