I was going to say this also. For HDD I'd stay with the main two nowadays, Seagate or Western Digital.

Interesting you refer to that blog post. If you look at their most recent one there is a noticeable drop in failure rates of 2015 model Seagate drives, as shown at the bottom of their post, and they are infact showing as more reliable than the WD drives.
@Shaw: I think the late 2015 results were better because there were more 4TB+ Drives around, compared to previous years. The reliability statistics for the most popular Seagate drives (1TB to 3TB) are still pretty bad, and those drives are by far the most popular because they're in the sweet spot in terms of affordability and price per GB.
Also external storage drives tend to be made from the cheapest drives, and some stock can be quite old.
Personal experience with the Imation drive has been terrible, had 3 of 3 fail within 3 months.
