  • Gull have released their full information:

    Summer Discounts Continue!

As the warm weather continues, we are discounting fuel at all sites across New Zealand, just in time for the weekend.

From 7am on Thursday 25 February until midday Friday 26 February we're dropping pump prices by 10c per litre.

Remember, you can make your savings go even further by using Countdown supermarket vouchers in conjunction with already discounted prices at manned sites.

Voucher cards still give 10% off two fuel purchases - you can pick them up at stations with a Night 'n Day store. A woman posted on Gull's Facebook page a photo of her card which had the following vouchers on it: $5 off your next fuel purchase of $50 or more, $3 off your fuel purchase of $30 or more and $5 for Wedges with The Works.

    • The coupons are great because you're saving around 15c per $30/$50 fill, rather than the usual 4c/6c/10c off for Smartfuel. Also if you ask nicely (or fill up more often during the day, say a $5 fill) you can get more than 1 coupon. The $2 brain freezer drink in the previous coupon was also pretty good.

Some Gull stations are not price competitive however. For example I mentioned Gull Kingsland is $1.509/l but BP Mt Roskill is $1.579/l today. minus 10c for Smartfuel you get $1.479/l.

Finally the discount days start at 6:45am. I went there 10 minutes early so I missed it (fortunately my tank was already mostly full) but I did manage to get the coupon.

      • @Avantime:

Palmerston North was cheaper than Mt Roskill today. Petrol prices were 10 cents more yesterday.

Was still a good price today I thought at $1.549/L/$1.539/L. My grandmother has discovered that the Z station in Sanson, 20km from Palmerston North, is remarkably cheaper and has been for a few weeks now. I think its been $1.569/L for 91 for a few weeks and was that same price today.

Grandma lives in Feilding and I visit frequently, including now. Looking at 91, all brands in Feilding had a 10 cent drop today - BP Connect, Caltex and Gull were all $1.579 since 91 usually costs 3-5 cents more than PN. There's a BP at the North End of town but that always charges excessively more, as I think its owner operated.

        • Petrol's generally on the more expensive side in Auckland, maybe with the exception of Botany and East Tamaki. Prime commercial real estate is expensive in central Auckland, and so are the rates.

By far the cheapest petrol I've seen is in Gull Atiamuri, on State Highway 1 in the middle of nowhere. AFAIK it's now an unmanned station. The other cheap places are Rotoroa/Taupo and in the few times I've visited Palmy, it's usually Mobil Rangitikei Street.

        • @Avantime:

This station is mentioned quite a bit on different websites. Yes, it sounds like it is unmanned so you can't scan Countdown supermarket vouchers here yet for further discounts. Gull are introducing technology for this though across their unmanned stations.

As for the cheap prices at Atiamuri, Gull even boasted about it in a press release on February 11.

"For what we see as the absolute best price around try our site at Atiamuri on State Highway 1, North of Taupo – the petrol there is just under $1.50 per litre and that includes around 87 cents per litre in various taxes!" said Gull General Manager Dave Bodger

"Diesel's not bad either at 62.9 cents per litre"

I don't think fuel prices have gone up since then, so the price at Atiamuri must have been incredibly cheap today and the 10 cents off nationwide will continue until midday tomorrow. Being in the location it is, it would only be a useful place to fill up if passing through.
