  • Not really sure whether this is a deal or an announcement.

    • A deal like this one here for a price drop on Uber was considered a deal even though it is a permanent price drop. Also the Spotify family deal could be called an announcement but it was very well received.

I'm normally in the same boat with this sort of thing (not considering it a deal), however due to the fact they have introduced a new category which theoretically should save people money - i've +1'd it.

Heya. I'm new to this youshop thing, what do they mean by 'repack '? Thx.

      From NZPost

      Repacking:
We will evaluate your parcel to see if it can be repacked to reduce the amount of postage you need to pay to send it to New Zealand. If we repack your parcel a fee of NZD$4.50 applies.
We will only repack your parcel if the money you will save on the international postage exceeds the repacking fee. Items will not be removed from the manufacturer's packaging.
Find out more about how we determine whether or not to repack a YouShop parcel.

Oh! That sounds good! That was my main worries with youshop. Bought a few things from Amazon before and they always over packaged! For my own good by protecting the items that I have purchased. But not when I have to pay by dimension. :) thx.

Remember that your parcel won't always be repacked and there is no guarantee they will:

They do not have a weight difference greater than 2 kg.
They contain protective manufacturer's packing e.g. Styrofoam.
They are in manufacturer's branded packaging e.g. Shoe boxes.
          The parcel contains leather items.
The parcel is sent to the YouShop USA warehouse and contains automotive parts or accessories

Always keep your total purchases below $400 otherwise gst and duty applies

Thx for the tip. By any chance you know how much if ended up over? 12.5%? Thx.

15% GST + $50 IETF and Biosecurity fee.

I don't mind paying 15% GST but the customs fees really kills it for me, unless I'm importing a particularly high value item.

Note some stuff like clothing, watches and shoes attract a lower GST threshold, and whenever GST is payable you'll get stung by the $50 customs fee.

        • Thanks for the tips! :)

        • @Alias:
Do you pay GST on gift cards? For example, one item from Amazon includes a US$100 gift card and the total is over NZ$400. Considering that I have to spend that gift card on another purchase from Amazon there is a potential to be charged GST twice on that gift card. Do I declare to YouShop the value of my purchase minus the value of the gift card?

        • @Paul: hope the others can answer that for you. I'm new to buying from oversea and so far hasn't come across that scenario.

        • @Paul: No idea, you might want to contact NZ Post.

  • you pay GST on total item value $400
