Spotify Family - Now $19.99/Month for up to 6 People

160

Spotify has reduced its pricing for the family plan. It's now a flat rate $19.99 for yourself and up to 5 others. This is roughly about the cost of what Spotify family for two people cost before, so significantly cheaper for 3 or more people.

Previously it was you paid full price, and each family member was 50% off full price.

To save you the simple math this is the new price. Every user has a separate account with full premium access.

Number of people Cost Per Person
2 $10
3 $6.66
4 $5
5 $4
6 $3.33

Note that this is the same costing as Apple Music Family plan in NZ, and competing services such as this are the reason for the price drop. Spotify however seems to be the platform of choice in NZ so I feel this discount is worth posting.

  • Do you share the account or share the subscription?

    • A single account holder signs up to family and pays the $20 bill. You then add others as family members accounts who accept your invitation. Everyone's accounts are separate, full premium access accounts. The subscription page of their account no longer shows billing info and instead shows:

Your account is part of a family subscription, please refer to the Premium for Family owner to manage your subscription.

      • So you could set it up with a bunch of mates for ~$3 each?

        • If you consider them like family, sure! :D

Note T&C used to say reside at same address but im not sure how they are going to police that without tapping into phone geolocation data. And i can't find that clause anymore with the new plan.

Thanks for posting up the deal, currently I know 3 people in my family using Spotify premium. Do we just cancel our current spotify premium subscription first then re-sign up? Or can we just jump straight in to the family plan, any ideas?

If i recall, you would sign up one account to family, which i believe you would be billed for up front (can't remember), so maybe do it towards the end of your renewal period. Then send invites to the other two accounts. As soon as the other two accounts accept the invitation to become family, their current billing info becomes irrelevant and instead covered by the family sub. So no need to cancel.

  • Thoughts on some family members being overseas?

Sorry, at work and haven't read the fine print yet.

  • Is there any way to get the family subscription plan with a Spark free plan? The main Spark account holder could pay the difference between single user and family charge.
