do they give you pupillary distance?

      • is that a yes

        • If you ask for it then yes, it is a yes.

    • Depends on the store, last time I got a test from Specsavers they tried charging me $10 for my PD - so would make sure to ask them specifically at the time.

My impression is if you've never gotten glasses from the place, there's no guarantee they even have the PD. It's required to make the optical appliances but it's not something that actually relates to the health of the eyes. And so it's not something that even requires an optometrist to test in NZ, a dispensing optician could measure it. See these discussions for example https://www.reddit.com/r/newzealand/comments/4ehlkn/can_an_o… & https://www.odob.health.nz/cms_display.php?sn=88&st=1&pg=919 (note that the point of controversy in the second link seems to be in the auto refactor test not taking the PD). I believe OPSM also uses a computerised system, this is about Australia http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2295981 but I'm sure I've read somewhere the same thing is used in NZ.

So in that sense, in some cases it may not simply be that they refuse to provide it, but that it wasn't even tested. On the other hand, if you did get glasses from the store before or they did measure it so it's on file, I have heard people suggesting using the privacy act if they refuse. While I've never actually read of anyone doing it, I can't really see what they can do against this. They can't even charge for the information since the Privacy Commissioner's view is that charges are only the cost of making the information available and it's likely there should be no charge for such a simple request https://www.privacy.org.nz/assets/Files/Reports-to-ParlGovt/… & https://privacy.org.nz/the-privacy-act-and-codes/privacy-pri….

  • Anyone with AA(insurance)and got this for free?

    • +2

If your an AA member you get it for free that's what I did last time. You get one free every 2 years which is when they recommend another checkup. I'm not sure about AA insurance, I think it is just the normal AA membership for car breakdowns etc.

      • Thanks Hamster been searching if its for insurance members too couldn't find anything. I'll ring them tomorrow/Monday and get my aging eyes tested.

        • Got mine done last year for free with the AA membership.

  • Latest one https://www.specsavers.co.nz/sites/default/files/uploads/dec…

Got it from asking on Facebook. I tried brute forcing based on previous versions, but they can't seem to make up their mind what to call the file.
