Usual Tip: Remember that Gull takes this discount off their list price, and nearby stations will sometimes match this. This means you may be able to stack the matched price with a further fuel discount, such as supermarket vouchers, the 10c off Caltex has today, or the usual 6c at Mobil and BP.

  • which stations match?

    • Would depend on location. Lately some I've seen don't even drop their price when Gull does.

  • But then you don't get a $5 and $3 off voucher to use next time. These equate to approx 15 cents off per litre which is better than 10/6c off per litre if going to another petrol station.

    • Just buy 5 dollars worth of fuel at gull, and then fuel up at a competing station.

      • I actually had one offer the voucher without buying petrol once when I asked for $5. Although the reason I only get $5 is generally because I don't fill up petrol much so it's better to just use the vouchers. Actually I often get 2 since I have 2 Gulls near me, but then only end up using one part of one voucher :-P

This time was a bit different since it was better than the $3/$5 vouchers, and was wondering about the price match. But I since Countdown stopped giving Gull vouchers and moved to AA Smart Fuel I haven't bothered with them (as the Gull $3/$5 are cheaper since I don't shop enough at Countdown to earn much). Although I just remembered I'd actually received a 6c Mobil voucher from Pak'n'save just before filling up. And the Mobil (and BP) did match.

But meh, it was only about $25 (about 90 cent saving I guess) excluding the $5 I likely would have spent at each petrol station. And I prefer to support Gull when I can since I'm only getting the price because of Gull. Plus visiting 3 petrol stations in one day does seem a bit naff :-P

    • Yea that is true, although I've noticed those aren't always available, plus a decent discount now is probably better then an extra cent or 2 in a months time. In this case the discount was $7, due to 14c off 50L. Worth keeping in mind for future though, thanks for the reminder.

      • stations around east tamaki in Manukau seem to match. too bad i just filled up the other day.

        • That is true, but only Caltex on Springs Rd East Tamaki matched Gull's price ($1.599/L 91octane). Combined with AASmartfuel (min. $40 fill) will bring down the price to $1.499/L. BP and Z did not match prices, so they are at a whopping $1.829/L :-O

        • yeah thats where i normally fill up, can quiet often get petrol in the 1.5x range

    • The stations that are self serve only don't offer this unfortunately.

      • Not true. Gull Whenuapai is self service and was 162.9 today.

He was referring to the vouchers mentioned above, not the 20c discount, that is all stations.

    • What voucher?

  • Hey guys.

I've just been down to Christchurch for two days, flying in and out of Wellington with a good Jetstar deal that my Dad, my sister and I got. Had a good time down there.

Driving back today from Wellington, I heard about this Gull discount. I see in Levin that Gull have got Unleaded 91 priced at $1.557 per litre! Diesel I think was $0.85 per litre. This is a bargain (Shaw ;)). Other retailers appeared to have matched with $1.579/L for Unleaded 91, but I don't think the self-service Allied station have.

No, we didn't fill up as we already had on Tuesday for $1.899/L at the Mobil!

Might be a good time to get some gas Shaw?

    Mark :)

    • Wow nice price, I'm up in Hastings at the moment, so had to settle for $1.629. Luckily got 14c discount at Caltex too, so that makes it basically the same price. Allied rarely change their price, its been lower than the others for a while now, obviously except on these sale days.

I heard Fielding is about $1.60, but can't be sure.

      • For Unleaded 91 at the Gull it is $1.677/L. I looked on PriceWatch.

        • Oh yea, almost worth the drive to Levin lol

  • Just filled up Diesel at 85.7 in Hamilton. I forgot how frothy Gull's fuel is, it's like someone squirted half a bottle of detergent in there. Brimming the tank is very difficult, even when you fill a jerry can in between.

While i can't meet the spend threshold, if you went to the Mobil nearby you'd have got ~83.9 after 6c off and at the Caltex ~82 after 10c off.

For 91 i'm guessing it would have got down into the high 1.50s, but I wasn't paying too much attention to exact figures.

I uses 95, and it is hard for me to see any real savings. I took a punt today and went to caltex, since Gull was like 1km away and caltex 91 displayed prices were $1.619. Nope, 95 was $2.089. Maybe I will pop in Gull before work tomorrow and fill up so I can feel better about myself for saving $2.20
