Daiso Auckland was closed for renovations and has just re-opened today with a limited promotion of $3 per item instead of the usual $3.50 until 8 Feb.
Ever since my first trip to Japan, I have been fascinated by their 100 yen shops and how they can sell so many things at 108 yen (100yen + 8 yen tax) ~NZD 1.30 - everything from japanese crockery, plastic garden pots, socks, drinks, snacks, stationery (sharp scissors!), cleaning products and many other useful day-to-day household items. These items are either made in China or Japan but for the Japanese market which tend to demand good quality and aesthetically-pleasing items.
One of the biggest chains of these 100 yen stores is Daiso which has international stores. Prices vary from country to country, $2.80 in Australia, $2 in Singapore. It's great to know that they have an Auckland store as well. Whilst the normal price of $3.50 is not as good as $1.30 that you'll get in Japan, many of their products are still really good value at that price.
You can see their products on their website which also offers online shopping with a delivery fee. Looks like the special offer of $3 per item only applies in store.
