Skinny Unlimited UFB, VDSL & ADSL $68 Per Month (No Contract) or $73 Per Month (24 Month Contract) - 40GB of Mobile BB for $40

90

The no contract option ($68 per month) requires a connection fee ($49) and the purchase of a modem ($99). The 24 month contract option is $58 per month for the first 12 months, and $88 per month for the remaining 12 months. This works out at $73 per month ($5 more than the no contract option), but you don't need to pay the connection fee and the modem charge ($148).

Fibre/UFB speeds are limited to 100 Mbps download / 20 Mbps upload. Other ISPs offer up to 1000/500.

fibre speeds (100 Mbps download / 20 Mbps upload)

So not as fast as some other ISPs offer (200/200 or 1000/500). Still very cheap though.

Bigpipe sell this for $79 and Unlimitered Internet for $70

    • bigpipe also semi regularly have signup discount or no sigup fee (forgot which) and BYO router on groupon, Unlimitedinternet looks cheaper

To clarify for anyone confused, Skinny Broadband capped plans are 4G based. The Unlimited plan is fixed connection however, the best available of ADSL, VDSL or 100/20 UFB. No other UFB speed tiers are available.

Note according to Skinny reps on Geekzone this is using the Bigpipe UFB handover infrastructure so UFB won't be available in all areas that Spark has it.

It's CG-NAT only - public and static IP is not available.

This is essentially a direct competitor to Slingshot's Flip.

    • CGNAT only? Urgh… I guess they had to do something to make it unappealing to Bigpipe customers.

      • CGNAT is honestly the worst I was looking at this like "wow this is a decent deal"

  • How about going to Bigpipe with the 100/20 plan and get them to price match it? Worth a try yes? Saving of $11/month.

I doubt that Spark will price match one of their sub-brands to another sub-brand. There's no benefit to them doing so.
Both Skinny and Bigpipe are part of Spark if you weren't aware.

      • Did not know that, I thought skinny were 2 degrees!

They don't make it clear they are a subsidiary because i'm sure the marketing teams would prefer you didn't know. 2Degrees has no sub brands, although the fixed internet they have exists because they acquired Snap.

One of the main reasons Skinny Mobile exists is to undercut 2Degrees, they killed a lot of the 'lowest prices' claims that 2Degrees were making by undercutting them. The logic is that if people are going to leave Spark for somewhere cheaper (and possibly with less value added products), it may as well be another Spark owned business.

I guess Skinny Broadband exists because they are going for a different market segment to Bigpipe, though there may be other reasons too that Spark knows how the numbers stack up.

    • Does BigPipe price match?

      • I doubt it. No harm in asking, I guess.

Is better priced. Also i'm sure you can get out of the 49$ admin fee

I wouldn't touch them. They call themselves "Unlimited Internet" but they kick you off with little notice (1 week) if you use too much data - http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=49&topicid=1985…

Of course they don't tell you how much is too much and they don't provide any tools to track how much data you're using.

  • Skinny mobile is set up to stop other companies starting a mobile network operation… Undercut price = no competition and full revenue
