FAQs

When will my server be online?
We have plenty of stock for most spec combinations, and in-stock hardware will be provisioned on the same day. Feel free to contact us to confirm that same-day setup is available for your chosen specs.

What level of support is included?
All VPS and dedicated servers are unmanaged, meaning that our NOC can only assist with network or hardware related faults. Queries arising from customer-installed software will be answered on a best-effort basis, otherwise management packages are also available for purchase.

Are your servers DDoS protected?
Yes - our networks all feature extensive DDoS mitigation capacity. All international traffic is scrubbed in Hong Kong, San Jose or Amsterdam.

What operating systems are available?
Most Linux OS are available for selection during checkout. Windows servers incur an additional $35/m licensing fee. For other OS, contact us prior to purchase to confirm availability.

Can servers be upgraded?
Servers can be upgraded between packages at any time, and the pro-rata difference between the packages will be billed.

Do you offer discounts for your larger packages, or do you have packages larger than those listed on your website?
Yes - comment on this post or contact our sales team at [email protected] or live chat for a custom quote.

  • Unless you absolutely need low latency to NZ/AU you are FAR better off with another provider:

I personally use Hetzner for running one of our main dolphin-emu.org servers. Their support is great, they can give you temporary KVM access to the screen itself for fault management (I have used once already after debian upgrade went wrong)

    • You're absolutely right - for applications which aren't latency-critical, it's often much cheaper to host with an overseas provider. This simply comes down to operating cost - bandwidth and datacentre space in New Zealand and Australia is far more expensive than it is in the US or Europe. Hopefully that will change in the future! Many of our customers run business or gaming applications that require low latencies to local users.

Unless you absolutely need low latency to NZ/AU…

That's about the only reason we host ChoiceCheapies in Auckland but nevertheless a very significant reason — most of the time you do want to have low latency for most of your users.

      • Honestly, the 15ms difference between AKL and SYD is an absolute deal killer, the website might as well be called "Ozbargain".
