Depends if you are after one-off use or rechargeable batteries. One-off are good for outdoor use where rain may accidentally seep inside causing expensive rechargeables to only last one time for example.
Rechargables are too expensive for use in low-drain devices which you don't use often. I use my Eneloops for my LED sensor lights around the house, and disposables (Varta 30pk from Bunnings, made in Germany) for everything else. I use a 18650 for my torch.
