  • Awesome, IV had 2x free trials before and don't have Samsung but that link worked and now have another 3 months, hopefully it still gives me YouTube premium just in time for new cobra Kai :)

aw, ddnt cross over to youtube like last time

    • You can install Youtube Vanced (no root required) to get Youtube premium on an Android. It's super easy. If you want to sign into Youtube, just install the MicroG Vanced apk in addition to Youtube Vanced.

      https://www.xda-developers.com/youtube-vanced-apk/

You get completely ad-free Youtube on your Android, in addition to advanced settings like codecs, etc. It's much better than the official Youtube app and much better than paying for Youtube Red/Premium.

As for Google Play Music, I've never really understood what's so good about it in comparison to Spotify. Does it allow you to download music and play it offline in the form of a .mp3 format (or other types of music format)? Or does it require specifically the Google Play Music app to play it, the same way that a downloaded Spotify song requires only Spotify to play it?

      • From what I hear play music can be handy as there's more songs available (as you can access and download off YouTube too)

        • Really? Guess I should check it out then. There are a few occasions where I couldn't find the song I want on Spotify, but those songs aren't mainstream songs though so maybe that's why they were hard to find. I always thought Spotify has the largest catalog of songs and in fact, I did some quick Google on the differences between the 2 and they all say that Google Play Music lacks a lot of songs in their library compared to Spotify…

How does the song download from Youtube work? Some of the official music channels on Youtube include unnecessary intros in their video and it just ruins the music in my opinion. The thing is, it's super easy to download a song from Youtube via alternate methods. Chrome/Firefox extensions, online web services, Github projects, you name it.

I'm more interested in how the offline downloaded songs work. Ideally, I'd like to download the songs offline as .mp3 and then just store that in my music library collection. I could then just play the music via bluetooth to my car or whatever, without having to rely on either Spotify or Google Play Music, nor will I have to pay for their services.

      • Don't think Youtube Vanced gives you Youtube Red content does it? I mean not without an account with a subscription. This seems to be what quote interested in. It may let you skip ads and background playback but doesn't by itself grant access to the actual Red/premium content.

        • nope. no access to Youtube Red. that's a premium service.

You can also use a VPN to sign up for youtube premium in India for 189 rupees which is about $4NZ for the family account. 6 people can use Google Play Music / Youtube Premium… It's so cheap I almost feel bad but in NZ its like $22 or so which I wouldn't be keen to pay anyways :)

This is the stuff I come here for. Thanks mate!

      • Glad I was able to help someone save some money :)

For anyone else seeing this, it took me less than five minutes to set up and can confirm it works. You just saved me a bunch of money Premoz, cheers!

      • Any free VPN with Indian server?

        • Express VPN. It's on the Play Store has a 7-day free trial.

You can download Windscribe VPN for free. Looks like they support India:
          https://windscribe.com/status

They often have promotions to upgrade to a 20GB/30GB/50GB account for free. Check Cheapies every now and then for these types of deals:
          https://www.cheapies.nz/node/19055

There are tons of VPN options. Read more about my post here:
          https://www.cheapies.nz/node/19384

You can also pay for Ivacy or VPN Unlimited from StackSocial.com. Those "lifetime" deals are always on Stacksocial. I would say just stick to using a free VPN like Windscribe or something like that, if you have nothing to hide and aren't too concerned about privacy. As long as you're not doing your internet banking and what not via VPN, then it doesn't really matter if companies collect your data (and you'll never know for sure, all you have is their word).

I'd like to give this a try but have a (newbie?) question- once signed up using a VPN, do you still need to use the VPN to access Google Play Music and Youtube Premuim? Thanks, Premoz.

      • +2

I can answer this because I’ve just done it, nope you don’t need a VPN to access it. Once it’s set up everything operates as normal. I believe for family members to be added to the plan they must also use a VPN to accept the invitation otherwise it will give a “looks like you’re in a different country than the family manager” error

        • Brilliant!! Thanks compdoge.

        • What does the currency conversion cost each month?

          • @Hayce Irri: I got billed $4.20 - the card I’m using doesn’t have a currency conversion fee. Tons of banks scrapped the fee recently so best check with your bank.

            • @Skengman: Which bank are you with and what card do you have that doesn't have a foreign currency conversion fee?

189 Rupees is $4.10 using Visa's current exchange rate, so it looks like your bank is including the fee in the total amount billed.

I'm pretty sure all NZ bank debit/credit cards at the moment still have a foreign currency conversion fee, no bank has scrapped it AFAIK.

              • @philyy: Looks like you're right after some research, not sure where I read they were getting rid of it! Apologies mate

Cheers !!I'm going to India next month. I'll subscribe there !!
Would it still carry on after you've connected to an NZ IP?

Can I do this if I'm already a subscriber? Cancel then sign up again with the VPN on?

EDIT: yeah, just cancel, turn VPN on and renew. Simple.

      • Yeah its just launched in India, I changed from Russia to India to get it as cheap as possible and worked fine :)

    • Haha yeah, same principal applies to buying flight tickets or attraction tickets.

    • I was looking for this comment (regarding VPN) :D
