Thanks man, been looking to get one of these for a while

    • Me too. I've seen it on sale a few times, but never seen the pro that low.

I bought a cheap sous vide from Aliexpress ($75) with the intention of upgrading to a better one if I liked it..
I did like it, immensely - perfect steak every time, hurrah! Then I realised there was no point in upgrading… heat is heat, after all

I think maybe the only advantage of these ones is that they'd connect to bluetooth or wifi - but honestly, that can't be worth the extra $150/$200. Maybe if you're cooking a bulk lot of steaks or something, with the higher wattage on the pro? (No, even then - I've done 4 large ones in a large bucket with my 1100w one, worked perfectly)

I'm not a chef, and might absolutely be missing something, but I think the money saved on a cheaper sous vide machine could then be invested in better pans and knives and so on!

Yeah I agree. I bought the Shaffer Berry one from Harvey Norman a few years ago. It does what it's meant to. I'm also not sure what is so much better about the Anova to justify it's price.

thanks for sharing, How does this compare to some cheap 50-60 dollars sous vide machine?

    • Someone above comments about their AliExpress machine. I've never had one before, but the Pro is what I have been keeping my eye on. There are other models in similar price ranges, but too hard to get in NZ.

For the Pro the benefits are the specs. 1800 watts to heat quickly and evenly. 100 litres capacity is huge for whole chickens/turkeys etc. Temperature regulation on the Pro is excellent. Variable temps with SV cooking are not good. WIFI to start cooking when away from home, e.g. defrost and start cook so it's ready when you get in the door.

I'm actually planning to use this with brewing, & the extra power the pro has will come in handy to heat up the large amount of water. Also any high wattage electronic device has a good chance of burning out, so I'm willing to pay a bit more to make sure they haven't cheaped out on components and comes with a decent warranty.

      • That's one thing people seem to overlook. Safety is pretty important with water and electricity. Especially if you plan to leave these things running when you aren't at home.

  • 18h to cook a steak? I NEED THIS

    • It's like 2 hours, but a brisket for 24 hours at 60C - I can't wait.

  • There was a previous offer posted here in June last year that had me tempted, I looked back to compare the price and it looks like their RRP has gone up significantly. Is this the case or am I missing something and if so, has something changed - is this a new (better?) model?

    • Yes that is the old model. This was a clearance price when the new models came out. Pretty good deals, but limited supply.
Smaller, lighter, temperature precision, IPX7 rating, …more expensive. This was also after Anova was bought out by Electrolux.

Thanks for clarifying Monk. That is a significant difference in size which was one of the things I was less keen on previously.

It’s the 3rd time I’ve considered buying one of these and now just placed my order for the Pro since it felt like today was the day.

        Thanks for posting the offer!

        • All good. Hopefully they arrive soon, I have so many plans…
I bought the pot lid cover, but I think I might make one of those chilli bin things. Do some massive brisket.

  • We don't use ours much.

It makes amazing eggs (75C for 13 minutes). I usually run it for 13.5 minutes at 75C because I like it slightly less soft.

Occasionally I make 24-36h pork ribs. Can't remember what temp probably around 65-70 I think.

  • I noticed the power on these things are 1000/1800watts. Sounds like it'll use up a bit of electricity, especially since these devices like to slow cook food?

It's not "on" the whole time. It would use that amount to heat up the water (think a kettle is also around 1800w) and then it monitors the temp and heats up the water if when. I think it turns on roughly 20% of the time assuming it's not too could in your house.
