Briscoes is always on a sale, if you don't get at least a 50% off the normal price you are just getting ripped off by them, I made the mistake of walking in on one of the 5 days in the year they are not on a sale and couldn't believe the normal prices, I was shocked.
Yep but they do have some items that usually only go to 30% so these half price ones are really good to get some items.
definitely check the price history. have got caught out thinking i got a good deal on half price but then i realized they did 70% off the same item in their last sale!
Such a shame that price history site has stopped working. Very useful for Briscoes where the prices are all over the show.
Mostly 70% off price is near a good bargain. Sometimes even the hot price items are not a good bargain. So do the check the price history before buying. I once heard briscoes CEO or someone saying that they intentionally mark up the price and put it on discount to play with people's mind thinking it's a good bargain.
Doubt it would be the CEO saying that, as that would be illegal under the Fair Trading Act.

Shame it's online only, I need a refill for my SodaStream gas and these 50% sales are the best time to buy them by far but they can only be purchased in store.

From memory I think we pay about $23 @ Mitre10 for a refill. We actually have 4-5 60L bottles currently because JB-Hifi had them really cheap (about $25/bottle) almost same price as a refill.
@kiwijunglist: Good idea about buying new bottles on sale and then waiting for the best refill offers. Should pay for itself after a while and saves the hassle of running back and forth looking for sales. Thanks.

HN has a loyality card and you get the 9th refill free they are $25.99 in HN in Queenstown.
@Sickman: It is because NZ don't have M(ax)RP. Anyone can set any RRP. I bet we will see these many "50%" sales by Briscoes (or Farmers .. ) if we had MRP.
