Not the our problem they are not paying or not required to
If you're advocating for something illegal in your post, that's a big problem. And if you don't think that's a big problem, then THAT'S a big problem.
Its not illegal they could be under the threshold too you dont know that.
@[Deactivated]: Last year they made half a billion dollars in revenue. If less than 60k got shipped to NZ I'll eat my hat.
@Slogan: Thats not my business its up to IRD to enforce it. "Ill handle the tax myself " is handling liability off them its all at you own risk but never had an issue much cheaper than buying here even if you did pay tax
@[Deactivated]: …and therefore your post should have said "WARNING: DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK" in big letters instead of saying "no tax collected at border" in little letters.
@Slogan: Yes maybe. However the law says if an item is under 1k they aren't interested, I am not the first one to post about this.
"Select "Ill handle tax myself" no tax is collected at border as its under $1000 confirmed by a couple people already including me."
GST is collected regardless of amount. Most large International businesses automatically put it on the total when shipping to NZ. Some of the others don't. It's just whether or not you get caught out if GST isn't applied.
Not if the company isn't registered for GST, which they don't have to be if their sales to NZ are under the limit. In which case you payat the border… Except you probably won't (unless you get it sent DHL).
BH is always DHL.
Saying you will handle tax and then not doing it is in essence tax avoidance :>
Aint it tax evasion? Tax avoidance is using legal ways to reduce the tax you owe whilst tax evasion is illegally not paying tax you are supposed to.
@ERIS: Yup, i'm using the wrong term. But it might just be fraud in NZ instead of evasion. But it doesn't really matter does it?
Isn't this meant for GST-registered businesses only, and not individuals?
Reading here makes me believe so: https://taxpolicy.ird.govt.nz/publications/2018/2018-other-g…
If this is the case, then is the onus on the foreign business to register (or risk being banned by NZ Govt), or are NZ individuals breaking the law by declaring they'll pay tax and then don't?
The reason I ask is because people should know if advice is safe to follow or potentially risky.
