Hopefully more vendors now know about the inKind app and payment. Quite a few of the businesses I visited in Hamilton had never heard of it, making my universal voucher useless. They were used to the email voucher. That was a few months ago though and may not be a widespread issue. I emailed SOS and this was there response.

"The response from businesses this time, however, has shown us that vendors are on board with the app and grateful more than ever for community support.

We're doing everything we can communication-wise to ensure all vendors know how the redemption process works, and are familiar with the Universal Voucher. If there is ever another instance where a vendor will not accept credit, SOS Universal will refund your $$."

    • Hi Wakrak,

Does that mean that, to redeem the $10 Universal Voucher, you need to install the 'InKind' app on your phone?

      Thanks,

      Alan.

      • Yes. SOS vouchers now run through the inKind app. So in this scenario, $60 credit will be loaded onto your account, accessible through the app.

          Cool - thanks for that.

No chance I am installing some random app on my phone LOL.

          Alan.

    • Yeah, similar experience - to the point that one we time ended up paying cash instead because that was the first time anyone at the place had heard of SOS Business… But used it elsewhere later so ymmv i guess

    • That pretty much reflect my experience as well - I probably used only 10% of the credit I topped up. I initially thought this is a win-win situation for local shops and us. But the reality is pretty different since no one knows about his app.

I stopped buying Grabone vouchers due to similar experience where we have to deliberately tell the business we are using grabone and then they start treating us as second class citizens :-)

Similar experience here. Got gifted $50 for my birthday. Cashier at a restaurant I went to had no idea what I was talking about, which made for a very awkward interaction, as if I was trying to cheat them of a meal or something. Eventually they called up the off site manager/owner and that person had to tell them through the phone how to work this transaction. THE STAFF HAVE NOT EVEN BEEN TRAINED TO USE THIS APP!!!

Spent about $30 that night (some time in June of this year), still have $20-ish that I have been hesitant to use anywhere else in fear of another awkward experience.

Idea behind inKind app is good, but execution from the company to vendors have been piss poor.

Whilst this seems like a good deal, the headache that can come with it is frankly not worth it in my opinion.
