  • Have a gen 2, stuck it in the kitchen and it's actually really handy and gets daily use.

    • Stick on a song/netflix series etc when cleaning up.
    • Use it in the morning for weather and news etc.
    • Use it as a timer etc when cooking.

It's cheap as shit and the sound quality is really good for the price.. thinking of maybe getting the max for the sound Q etc and sticking the gen 2 somewhere else.

Has anyone got a Max & Gen 2 and can speak of the main differences ?

    • Max is bigger screen and camera are the main ones

    • It's a bit of a hard one really, you can buy three of the gen 2 and only one Max. I bought a refurnished Max from 1-Day, they made a hash of the pricing and the adapter. The adapter didn't fit properly so they gave me a $40 credit on the max so only cost me $118 . The adapter is okay so I kept it. Advantages, better sound, camera to do video calls which doubles as a security camera . Better screen size to watch YouTube Netflix TVNZ etc but surprisingly not Amazon video ha ha.

      • +1

The Google Nest Hubs don't have the full Youtube app on them, so getting a specific video to play via voice command can become a nightmare. A lot of times it's faster to just cast from your phone - so you might as well play from your phone.

        • Always use the app and you are right you have to be very specific with your requests otherwise can be quite frustrating. The Google nest actually plays it from the hub the app only points the hub to the application. It's basically no different than using chrome cast on a television. Works well in a kitchen situation where there's not much room and the screen obviously larger and the sound is better than using your smart phone. Also works well as a surveillance monitor from your security cameras. It's a great timer in fact multiple timers can run at the same time. The screen is good at night if you want to be quiet by switching on and off Smart things in your house.
