Samsung Q60AB Introductory Deal: 43" QLED $968 (Was $1424), 55" QLED $1388 (Was $2198) @ Harvey Norman (in-Store Only)

80

Hi guys, my first ever post on this awesome Cheapies community!

If you are looking to upgrade from HD/4K tvs to Samsung's latest Neo QLEDs, this is a great offer from Harvey Norman valid only until 31st Dec 2021.

Neo technology basically uses mini-led backlighting which enhances picture quality further. I personally own the Q60A 55 inch model, and must say the picture quality is fantastic, kinda "you have to see it to believe it"! And did I mention the awesome super slim design and solar remote (no more changing batteries)

43 inch model has 32% discount = $968
55 inch model has 36% discount = $1388

I guess these TVs still have 60hz refresh rate (similar to my Q60A), so could be a bit of a bummer for gamers, however there is a game mode settings which makes it quite handy.

Hope this deal helps someone who is on a lookout for an entry into QLEDs era. Deal ends pretty soon, so get it quick since only 400 units nationwide! Happy new year to you all!

  • What's the difference between Q60a and Q60AB sounds like a chip shortage model

  • bought the jvc qled from the warehouse in their boxing day deal. really good picture and looks way better than your normal 4k/HD lcd tvs, even the Sony ones I've had

  • Is that the JVC 58 Inch 4K Smart TV?

    • got the 50 inch one. the specs aren't clear on the website but they're actually very similar

      • +2

Was going to say, this JVC TV is $784 at NL through CSC

        • oh yea that's a good deal. was just going to be a spare TV tho so didn't want it too big. after sales and coupons the 50" was about $630

If you're into gaming I wouldn't recommend the Q60 range for a few reasons. This is based on the Q60A but by the looks of it the Q60AB is essentially the same tv with a couple of minor tweaks here and there. First and probably the most important for gaming is that Samsung removed Freesync VRR support in their entry level QLED's after 2018. They also don't handle motion very smoothly plus the HDR on them is a bit worthless because the panels can't get very bright. Also there's no local dimming I think you have to get up to the Q80 or Q85 for them to have local dimming. By what I could find it looks like the Q60AB doesn't support HDMI 2.1 or go above 60hz refresh rate either.

Here's a review from RTings for the Q60A model https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/samsung/q60-q60a-qled

Also here's the link to the official Samsung page for the Q60AB, read the specs for yourself and you'll see a whole lot of buzzwords with hardly any relevant information at all, I couldn't even find the refresh rate of the panel in their list of specs but seeing as they say there's no Freesync support and don't mention HDMI 2.1 anywhere on the page I'm assuming it won't be higher than 60hz. https://www.samsung.com/nz/tvs/qled-tv/q60ab-55-inch-qled-4k…

    • I think Harvey Norman has made a mistake by including references to Neo QLED (i.e., Mini LED). Neo QLED is only available on the flagship 8K and 4K models.

I'd say their decision to make the entry level model sound better than it is is less a mistake and more just your everyday totally normal dodgy advertising strategies that we've all come to expect from many retailers in NZ. And it works for them so why the hell not, if people don't want to do their research beforehand so they don't easily fall for the marketing jargon then they deserve to go home with an inferior product. That's probably a bit harsh by me but the way I look at is you've got the internet at your fingertips it doesn't take long to find professional reviews about the product you're about to buy so use it.

Information online though about this exact model is scarce and if you can find a page from a retailer advertising the Q60AB that mentions either the refresh rate or type of HDMI inputs it has I'll applaud you because I've been nearly everywhere and I'm either blind or they just don't list them, but get into the higher priced models like the Q80 and Q90 and that information is readily available on every sales page, if that's not a form of dodgy advertising I don't know what is.

  • Rubbish deals its just an entry level lcd led with quantum chip even with quantum dot its useless save your money and jvc qled buy a tcl if you want qled spend a little more and get sony x90j 55in

  • I would not buy q60 as the main tv. Even for a spare, I think you are better off with other brands.

I have qled Q70r 65" (2019), and can say it is very good. Maybe Q80 or Q90 might be a bit better, hard to notice the difference sometimes.

You'd notice a big difference between your 2019 Q70 and a 2021 Q90 Neo. The Q90 has been a revelation, it's one of the highest reviewed tv's on RTings and is only beaten by the premium OLED's. I've been wanting to upgrade my Samsung QLED in the cave but refuse to pay more than $3000 for a 65" one so I'm waiting/hoping for some good sales on the old Q90 models when the new 2022 tv's start hitting shelves next year.

      • Can't compare 2019 qled with 2021 neo qleds. But I agree anything higher than $3000 is bit too much. I think I got it for $2700 2 years back from HN

      • Be sure to post that deal when you find it. Thinking the same. Want to upgrade older Sony android tv to modern but don’t want oled.

  • Just upgraded from a 32inch to a Sony x90j 55inch and I’m extremely satisfied.

  • I don't even need a new TV but I come here to learn about the tech so thanks all you smart cheapies!

it seems the samsung models that have mini-led tech are ones that have QN in the model name.
unless im mistaken OP's TV (and the TV's in this deal) wont have this tech, no doubt the picture still looks good though.

  • Probaly go and get this 65inch LG TV from NL for $1160.

It's not a great piece of technology or TV but definitely much better than the crap of Veon, JVC, Kogan etc.

I got this TV last week and happy with it. It's very fast and decent picture quality.

    • Thinking of buying this, how do you find it at night time?

      • +1

I bought it from the store (there was a queue with a limited stock signboard).

I initially thought this one is a Boxing day ore-only promotion but later I found the link online.

TV looks great and definitely value for money.
