Energizer 5m Smart Strip Light $49 @ Bunnings ($41.65 via Pricematch Mitre10)

60

Mitre10 is selling this for $69 but Bunnings price is $49. Both are regular price.

Just got one from Mitre10 Albany after a price beating. Super happy about it. I also own Yeelights and Lenovos can confirm this one is similar to the Lenovos which costs more than $100 for 5m. The Controlling app of this one has the same design as Lenovo’s and Brilliant’s. I’m sure they ordered the products and software solutions from a same Chinese OEM manufacturer.

  • What do people do with these?

Decorative lighting. There are plenty of ideas on Tiktok. (IMO there's a lot more decoration ideas from Tiktok than Youtube)

neighbour has one, it's gorgeous at night as a night light,

not sure if grass is greener

We judge their mood based on the colour they use. Last night was Blue.. we hope he is doing well

about 90% of the smart home apps use the same layout, after having so many different smart home products from different brands, I have about 10 of the 'same' app with a new logo and maybe a new button colour

this, seriously. TechLife Pro, MAgic Home, Tuya Smart, Smart Life, all the same freaking app reskinned.

    • +2

I'm guessing the platform is run by Tuya?
      https://www.tuya.com/news-details/tuya-smart-and-supreme-ann…

It might work with Tuya cloud or localtuya set ups
      https://community.home-assistant.io/t/energizer-smart-wifi-l…

If you can get these working with with Home Assistant, then you can wrap all these up into a unified local control that doesn't need multiple apps. Run it on a spare PC or raspberry Pi etc.

      • Thank you so much for the info! I’ve just downloaded a Tuya mobile app hopefully I could control all those OEMed home smart products with it

        • Keen to hear if it works, I haven't found it myself but saw a few references in 5mins of searching. They may lock it to the rebranded app only. The local version would be particularly interesting to test.

        • If this works on Tuya I would be interested in purchasing some, keen to hear outcome.

Just a general FYI regarding pricematching deals, remember:

price match itself is not a deal, but rather a method to make a merchant to sell you the same product at a lower price

Therefore, instead of posting the price match as a bargain, the real deal should be from the merchant who is offering the lowest price. Price matching is a bonus, and other members of ChoiceCheapies need to arrange their own price match.

In this instance, Bunnings is the deal, Mitre10 pricematch is a bonus.

  • Looking at something like this for my toy display - dumb question, so can I just cut it to size (if I don't need the full 5m), and is it plug in wall powered?

    • +3

You can normally cut the strips on the (hopefully) clearly marked joins. If you cut just anywhere in the middle you will drop the lights in that whole section. Sections are often around 30cm long.

    Bad design!
5M LED strip get only 3M adhesive strip ;-)

    • +3

I see what you did there haha.

    • Depends on the surface. Wooden or metal surface would be fine, but plastic like backpanel of a telly wouldn’t be as good. Most similar products in the market and this one all use same 3M 300LSE adhesive. Do some research and you may want to reinstall a stronger adhesive. Another neglected thing about installations is that you won’t be able to easily find 5pin corner connectors so you may have to cope with it when cornering it

KMart has some non-Smart ones (they use a remote control) for a decent price, too. $17 for 3m, $24 for 5m - not sure what's up with the "clearance" price being more expensive than the old price though.

I've been running this one for approx 1000 hours over a two year period with no issues:
