I've been thinking of getting a smart lock for our front door. Anyone here care to suggest one? Don't need anything too fancy

I have the Schlage encode. It is fine, set and forget. We have different codes for different people in the family, so we can keep tracks when the kids get home via a notification. It is also set to autolock after a couple of mins, so the door is never unlocked. Has helped a couple of times in the past when we had to provide access to the house for friends/tradies when we weren't home. The battery lasts around 10mths for us.

      • Anyone think Bunnings would do a price beat against this?

      • Wish there was something which would have Schlage encode + Eufy dual doorbell together. I meant feature wise.

  • Any camera system recommendations?

    • There was a little talk about this in The UN-Official Cheapies Discord Server

Eufy and Wyzecam tend to be pretty popular options for people who are at least a little techy and/or happy to run the wiring themselves

For those who are not tech minded and wanting something simple but knowing you pay more for that simplicity, or where its not possible to run any cables at all then Reolink battery powered wireless cameras (Argo etc) tend to be pretty good and cheap compared to alternatives

    • Depends if you want 24/7 recording or motion activated events only. For 24/7 the Unifi Protect platform is fantastic, but very expensive.

For motion events, Eufy seems to get the knod in most situations.

Also comes down to your ability to run Ethernet through your house, configure POE switching, NVR setup etc.

You can go 24/7 on the cheap end with the likes of Blue Iris and any ONVIF capable camera but again it's a bit more involved than plug and play of a wireless motion event setup.

  • On sale again.
