    • AU one has disc breaks. This only has clamp.

  • They sell the same bike on MightyApe but no price match available (link is missing on the page) - bit cheeky in my opinion:

You get what you pay for with bikes, don't get this

i bought a bike kinda like this from the warehouse back in 2012 for 98nzd on sale still have it works great still use it

Thanks for sharing, I've never heard of a budget bike being anything but average to ride after they hit a year old. Have you done many kms?

  • +3

How do they make, ship, and turn a profit when selling for $89.99.

This has to be a terrible bike but i'm also impressed at the economics at play.

    • +2

I doubt there's a profit here. this is a company that overstocked based on last year trying to liquidate it all by Xmas due to a sales downturn

  • +3

    80kg max weight

    • Dont take it over any jumps as the additional downward force by landing will make it exceed 80kg ๐Ÿ˜€

      • +1

        ahem 784.8N (force) ;)

        • Yes, doesnt add weight ๐Ÿ˜€

  • As someone that regularly rides a $2000 road bike this would have appeal to me if I didn't already have a similar bike. Always worth having a beater bike you care less about.

However I would only get this if you're mechanically inclined as it will almost certainly take some effort to get assembled and running well.

  • Partner want to learn how to bike and browsing the Kmart range now, guess this is better than any of the Kmart bikes?

    • +1

Yes this does look better than the Kmart bikes which are junky mountain bike shaped objects.

It doesn't look that bad to be honest. It will be a struggle to ride up any hills with those gears, and those brakes will probably suck in the rain, but for going to the shops or for short flat commutes on sunny days it should be fine. It will probably only last a year or two until the bottom bracket, wheels or headset dies but for the price of a single premium tyre, who cares? No-one is going to steal it and even if they did it wouldn't matter too much.

If you are new to bikes and can't do your own maintenance you might be better off buying from a bike shop, otherwise you will quickly find out how busy bike shops are at the moment and they will charge more than the price of this bike for a service, which you will need because the cheap wheels and gears will probably go out of whack fairly quickly. But bike maintenance isn't that hard and there are lots of videos on YouTube to help you.

For safety reasons I would absolutely not recommend this for any offroad use or going down hills fast. If something breaks you can die or seriously injure yourself.

  • Look like it's sold out now, do you think it will come back available later?

  • +3

Not sure if they're still sold but the Mrs and I got 2 x fold up 20" bikes from SuperCheap maybe 5 yrs ago for $150 each. Caliper brakes, 7 speed gears and still running fine. Hell of a lot cheaper than the $1000 the local bike shop wanted for a very similar bike.

    Cheap can be fine ๐Ÿ‘
