Voucher needs to be purchased by the 27/8/23 but you have until the 30/9/23 to redeem.

The unique Kogan Mobile voucher included as part of this product is non transferrable and cannot be redeemed for cash. Voucher must be purchased before 11:59pm NZST on 27/08/2023. Voucher must be redeemed before 11:59pm NZST on 30/09/2023. A Kogan Mobile SIM card is automatically included with a purchase of this plan. SIM delivery takes up to 14 working days, after which you can activate your plan. Activation or recharge must be made before the voucher expiry date. Voucher does not apply to subsequent recharges. Voucher cannot be used in conjunction with any other vouchers or promotional offers.

Just a few things to watch:

  • Make sure you uncheck the Kogan 'First' free trial when you signup, or at least cancel it before the 14 days is up. Otherwise you will get hit with the $149 annual sub.
It will be automatically selected when you go to place your order.

  • If you already have an existing Kogan Mobile sub, don't add the voucher code until you need to. Either when your plan ends or by Sept 30th when the voucher expires. The code will not extend a current plan - it will overwrite it and you will lose whatever time you have left currently.

  • Uncheck the autorenew option on your Kogan Dashboard after you have applied the voucher (look for the 3 green dots … to find the option). It will be set to autorenew by default.

                        • @Alias: You could still go halves with another Cheapie who may be in the same position as you for the Large plan. You will see a number in this thread have asked to split.
If you want to do that then put a comment that you want to split and turn your messaging on.
Fingers crossed 🤞 you can split with someone.

    • I want to buy an extra small plan for my 2nd phone, will you be having another 50% off soon?

  • Split with someone? Please let me know

    • keen! im at work atm but i can transfer $ tonight

      we get 2 sims right?

  • I believe you can upgrade from medium plan to large plan using the voucher? Can anybody confirm or have done so.

    • Yes you can but once you redeem the voucher whatever you have left in your medium plan will be gone.

      • Thanks. Yes will do on the last day of current plan which is end of Aug, so not far off.

        • If you have auto renewal turned on, just turn it off in the app so if you forget to redeem on last day you will not get charged for another month.

          • @kyogui: That's already off. Everything is set now. Thanks.

  • Is anyone keen to split?

    • cannot dm you

      • Ahh crap new account lockout. Will give you a bell in 16 hours once my 1-day probation finishes assuming you haven't found someone else.

  • Anything wrong with Kogan mobile, like I know warehouse Mobile I never got confirmation texts for the number etc. From 3-4 digit numbers if that makes sense, is that similar here too?

    • you will lose the ability to txt those numbers with Kogan

    • It was when I was on Kogan (more than a year ago now though).

For example, either I didn't get the reminder SMS from my dentist, or I couldn't reply - Can't recall which it was now though.

Might have changed since then of course.

      • Do you find that inconvenience? Very close to jumping the hoop as this is making $13.75/month for 15Gb data plan instead of paying $17 for 1.5Gb data

How do you find the network? Was it like the early 2degrees where it's good in major cities but flaky on open road/hilly countryside?

        • It uses the One NZ (Vodafone) network so is very good

        • It uses One (Vodafone) 's network, so anywhere they can be used, you can use Kogan.
I've been using it the past couple of years, and have had no issues (unless it's a place where everyone has no reception).
Being unable to txt special numbers is a little annoying, but definitely worth the savings IMO.

        • @Spam: Do you find that inconvenience? Very close to jumping the hoop as this is making $13.75/month for 15Gb data plan instead of paying $17 for 1.5Gb data

Its definitely annoying, and inconvenient, but I guess that will depend on how often you need / want to do an SMS verification loop with a third party.

For me, I have not gone back to Kogan, and won't until they fix the issue, but others might not care, or potentially not even be aware of the issue.

@Spam: How do you find the network? Was it like the early 2degrees where it's good in major cities but flaky on open road/hilly countryside?

Coverage was okay where I was at the time - it is Vodafone, so not at good as Spark (and anyone using their network), but not a big deal. I really think that issue is one that has to depend on the specific location(s) you spend most of your time though - Vodafone's coverage might be much better where you live / work than Spark, in which case that trumps any more general coverage.

          • @Alan6984: I for one continue to receive bloody myfoodbag texts after 2+ years of leaving them and deactivating my account because I can’t “opt out” via text which irks me every single week. Twice a week sometimes if they’re being extra desperate. So yeah, that feature of not being able to response to short number peeves me every few days

            • @CheapiesFiend: I hadn't considered that downside!

            • +1

@CheapiesFiend: can you put that number into a blacklisted/spam category in your message app? I know I did similar thing in my android phone recently

              • @spam: I actually had some free time and followed it up with MFB and they recognised they had a glitch in their system and have raised it with their tech guys for fix.

        • +2

I personally don't find it much of an inconvenience.

Got a reminder txt from the doctors? Just give them a call to confirm.

If they have an issue with their system not being able to confirm you manually, just say that you can't txt so your system is to confirm verbally.

In saying that, I've personally never encountered this problem myself.

        • Cheers all for the feedback.

Looks like I'll be joining soon. Trying to convince my wife too otherwise I can split with someone else.

    • +1

I've had Kogan for a year, I received confirmation texts but couldn't reply

      • Same for me

        • Confirmation texts/messages from shortcodes i.e. 8787 cost to respond (20c). This isn't covered by unlimited text plans so my experience is if you have credit it'll just pull it from that amount. Note: Confirmed it worked on Skinny but haven't had confirmations on Kogan.

          • +1

@Michael11324: This won’t work on Kogan unfortunately as you don’t have a credit balance.
Kogan is a great for price/value but one of the limitations is that you cannot respond to short codes.

    • You can't reply to non-mobile numbers like those listed but I have received them all.

      • This seems like an arbitrary limitaion, i'm sure it's not. But what it the reasoning behind it? I was on skinny prepay for years and didn't have an issue replying to them. Is it the vodafone network that limits this?

        • It's the limitation on Kogan side not something Vodafone does. To keep the cost low, they don't pay for the premium txts.

          • @ace310: Ahh OK. Aittlenrhing, but that would certainly be irritating in the right circumstances.

    • I’ve heard of people having issues with their iMessage not working for a few months but it usually comes back alright after that.

      • I haven’t had issues with mine over the past 3 years. I had one issue once where my data stopped working for a few hours/half day maybe 2 years ago and I got home and live chat them and they resolved it. I was annoyed at the time and blasted them, but tbh it’s actually quite minor and was resolved fairly quickly once contacted.

If you are in small , medium or large plan you can renew to the same plan for half price fromt he dashboard. Select renew then scroll to 365 days ,you will see the half price there and renew DONE

    • How does this work? I check on my dashboard and renew with 365 days large, the price is original

    • +1

      make this a deal

    • Nice I see this on my end so can renew small :)

    • For those who is lost like I was: to get that you need to nagivate quite a bit:
I am on "SMALL - BOGOF 3rd Bday Prepay Plan":
      - go to "Renew or buy prepay plan" > "I would like to purchase a prepay plan now" : it will show a $160 365 plan (Full price)
      - Click on "Choose another prepay plan"
      - Change the slider "Choose Prepay Plan Length" to 365
      - Then it will show among a bunch, the $80 prepay plan !!

  • What happens if I renew when my current plan expires in December? Does it extend from that month?

    • No. It will start new plan from now.
      https://www.cheapies.nz/comment/191770/redir

    • Don't renew it now.It renews staright away from today. Better buy a plan in a deal where you get a voucher that you can redeem later just before your expiry date cheers

    • I would not get this deal. Worst case jump on another provider in December. Normally similar deals happens around november/december as well.

  • I wasn't far off mine renewing so forgot and renewed it via the app oh well was only couple of weeks off thanks

  • I have freshly converted to the 25% off deal a month or so ago….$26.25 is all I pay.

A year up front doesn't give flexibility… Happy at the savings I am getting vs the $44 a month I was paying for a lot less.

    • Way I see is extra $13/month saving for a year which is $156. I will definitely be locked in but it's your preference.

      • It only works out at $13 a month saving if you've got someone else to share that for a cost of $330.

In my case I don't, as long as i keep my monthly payments going I enjoy 25% off without being locked in.

        Each to their own.

Hey guys - I'll be buying the Large deal this evening. If you'd like to go halfs, let me know. I'm in Auckland (massey) if in person is preferred, or online too.

  • I'm currently on a Skinny prepay plan. Can I sign up to this Kogan deal and keep my number?

  • +1

Be careful with the free first trial (which will auto-renew) it was ticked by default for me at checkout!

(After your free 14 day trial, Kogan FIRST will be billed at $149 annually)

    • +1

Yes - I commented this earlier but have now added to the main post description in case people miss it.

      • Such a slimy tactic by Kogan to have it auto selected, thanks for adding to the main post description hopefully no one gets caught out by this.
(edit apparently ComCom already looking into it https://www.stuff.co.nz/business/132679162/dick-smith-accuse… )
DSE is owned by KOGAN for those who are not aware, their websites are identical.

  • Only received one voucher email. Anyone else have this problem? Checked everywhere and haven't got it.

Your voucher code for a Kogan Mobile Prepay: LARGE (365 Days | 15GB Per 30 Days) - Buy One Get One Free! plan is:

    • I got both vouchers one after the other in two separate emails.

      • That's what happened last time. But this time just one. Aah I hate to contact CS. Looks like got no choice.

    • Same, got two different vouchers from two different emails

      • CS said to wait for 24-48hrs and see what happens.

  • Does anyone else get heaps of spam calls and text using Kogan?

    • no more than before

    • +1

Nope, it's not associated with the provider, it's associated with the number and where you sign up for stuff.

Numbers are harvested, stolen and sold, not provider based.

  • they used to do this deal for all packs. Disappointed that the deal is not for small and medium packs.

    • It’s the same for many things unfortunately, not just Kogan.

The following used to be my regular posts pretty much monthly:

      • The Market coupons (only a handful this year)
      • Waitomo - not a single ‘Free Spin’ promo this year.
      • To be fair TheMarket have been good to people to give Marketclub+ free for another year, the adjusted their terms that they could remove it if you are not an active voda sub(ie many of the people here) but have not made that move.

Waitomo got so abused(people here with tens of sims reselling them on facebook..) it was no surprise to me thats over.

    • You can still upgrade small & medium packs at 50% discounts if you already have the plan active from previous deal

      • +2

Any idea if the 50% discount for upgrades expiring on 27/8 as well?

        • Same question

        • I would assume so, but no confirmation anywhere on the site. Only way would be to ask support if they know.

      • how?

        • Only available if you have b1g1 offer from last year.

          Steps

          • Click Renew or Buy Prepay Plan
          • I would like to purchase a Prepay plan
          • Choose another prepay plan
          • Change plan length to 365 days
          • You will have 2 pricing for the same plan you are on. 1 at 50% off other at full price.
          • You will loose remaining balance of your existing plan if you renew with this method.
            https://ibb.co/B6BcCQ5
  • Anyone keen to split? Gonna buy 1 tonight.

    • Here

  • Thanks OP. I grabbed the same deal last year and happy to get it again this year, too.

  • Thought this promotion was done for after the other kogan deals lately, good to see it still going

  • Anyone in Auckland that want to split ?)

  • hi guys my parents are on skinny, they pay 17$ a month. if I buy this now, what are the steps i need to take to get the small plan at 50% price? and how much would it be per month

    • This promotion is only for the large plan unfortunately

    • Large plan ends up being less than $14 a month each and they will get 15gb data unlimited txt and calling….can't beat that

    • Large is still only $13.75/month compared to $17

  • Hello, would anyone like to split?

    • I'm keen to split a large, will DM you

  • Just bought it, if anyone wanna split dm me. Im in Auckland.

  • You don't need to buy this deal. Just go to your account, select 'Renew 365 Days,' and you'll find a half-price offer.

    • +1

I don't think that's the case for people that didn't get the 50% deal last time. I got the 30% deal earlier this year and when I go renew for 365 days, it shows up as $231 for a year.

  • Can anyone share what the activation process is like? I have a Kogan SIM already, but currently with a different provider for another 20 days before the plan is due. I want to move my number over, am I able to activate using the voucher code now and schedule to have that start later when my plan expires with the other provider?

    • +1

No you can’t schedule the activation.
As long as you get a voucher code prior to the 27th Aug you still have until the 30th Sept to activate.

I would wait another 19 days or so and then activate so you don’t lose out on what you have already paid with your current provider (actually go to the closest weekday rather than the weekend)

From memory it only took a short time to port numbers over (less than an hour I think) but it’s been a while since I did it.

    • So, how does this work ?  I pay into your bank acct the $165 and you email the voucher code and post physically the sim card ?

    • +1

Initially (for the first two hours the deal was posted) the purple banner showed 'For New Customers Only'.
This was corrected by Kogan to include existing customers and confirmed an error by a Kogan representative in this comment

  • If anyone wants to split a deal please message me

    • I'd like to split one

      • Sorry I am already sorted.
