Nowhere near as good as the B1G1F Large offer a while back ($330/2 = $165) but $27.12 for 32GB per month seems decent.

    • Many of the customers from 2022 may have moved out last month with the end of B1G1F from 2022.

Good to see the Extra Large pack for those that chew through the data.
Be interesting to see if they do another BOGOF or 50% off before the end of the year as they have done previously.

      • I'm counting on them doing a Black Friday promotion so I can renew

    • +1
  • Is it easy to downgrade your plan at the end?

I use like a gig of data per month or less, so would drop down to the $15 plan at renewal.

If you have to call them and go through a big rigmarole then I won't both signing up in the first place.

    • You can change plans online

    • +2

      It's straightforward.
When you sign up to any of their plans you get emailed a voucher code which when applied will activate the plan.
At the point you are ready to downgrade just repeat the process and enter the new voucher code. As the codes don't stack, whatever the most recent code you entered is the plan you will end up on so just be sure not to enter it too early.

If you are willing to take a gamble on Kogan offering another plan beforethe end of the year you could always jump on the Contact 3 months free plan ? Would give you unlimited calls, text, heaps of data for the next 3 months all for free with the ability to cancel at any time.

      • Sweet, maybe I'll wait for another one of those cheap plans people were talking about for Kogan then and make the switch from Skinny.

For the Contact thing, how easy is it to cancel? It looks like an "On Account" plan, and since they're an electricity company I imagine you have to call them, blow their CEO (meaning a maximum of one cancellation every fifteen minutes), sacrifice a chicken and run a marketing campaign about your plight before they'll agree to let you cancel (then keep billing you anyway)

And have at least 2 NZ Herald articles where you're pictured angrily crossing your arms.

        • Can’t comment on the Contact deal as never tried it - only what I read in the post and it looked pretty good. Hopefully cancelling is not as extreme as that!
Might be worth dropping a comment on the post to see if anyone signed up.

Anyone else waiting for the black friday deals for half price? Really hope it turns up this year as well otherwise may have to finally go on a plan with some phone deals!

    • Jump on the Contact plan I mentioned above in the meantime and buy yourself some time.

      • Ooh that sounds like a great alternative - thoughts on joining this closer to end of Nov start of Dec before the 22nd Dec cut off time?

        • +1

I haven't tried the plan myself but it looks pretty good - you could effectively switch to the $80 unlimited plan now which would see you through to the end of the year without any cost at all. There are no contracts so as long as you leave before the 3 months are up then it's completely free.
This would let you wait to see if Kogan came out with another deal and then allow you to switch with no penalty.
There is always the chance that Kogan doesn't offer another deal. They always have so far but you can't guarantee it in which case you would need to decide an alternative plan to move to.
          Just a thought.

Just had a chat with Kogan Sales, they indicated same offer as per last year in November.
    (BOGOF or 50% vouchers)

    So watch this space.

    • +1

      Surprised they told you that.

        • +2

I notice they don't full commit to an offer in November but 🤞

Yes so if you feel those offers are relevant for you so please go ahead with that otherwise please wait till november hopefully like last year we may get the deals for you

      • +3

I am suprised too given the decision for Black Friday deals have yet to be decided

        • +3

Waza, he said there may be a sale in November (but there is no guarantee). However, a sale has not been agreed to as yet for Black Friday

    • +1

That's good if they do but surprised they told you this far out.
I would take with a grain of salt what Kogan customer service say as they have been known to get it wrong before.
The last deal I posted the Kogan was initially listed for new customers only and there was mixed feedback from their team before it was changed to exisiting as well.

    • They may do it for Large and Xtra large packs and may not for Small or Medium packs?

      • God know what it's going to look like

  • Cheers OP. I grabbed the Extra Large which beats paying One NZ $57/m for 25GB.

  • How are the internet speeds? They say there is 4g and 5g coverage, so I would assume pretty good. Does anybody know if they throttle it at any point? Or if hotspotting is all good?

    • +2

Don't know about speeds as don't have 2 different sims/networks to compare. Use it for hotspotting though with kids watching youtube and still can watch netflix when out & about no issues. It uses One NZ network not sure if they throttle it. But speeds are pretty decent for both 4g & 5g where available. Using it for more than a year now and can't complain.

Considering it's very popular on cheapies and so far no one has complained about speed issue I believe it's not an issue.

  • Hi, I'm liking the Kogan option.
As I haven't had this before, would this work?
Purchase the $5 Sim card now (with 15gb data) and save it till the 50% offer comes in🤞. Then activate the Sim (as no waiting for it to arrive) and then activate the annual voucher a month after that.
Please let me know if this doesn't sound doable. Cheers

    • +1

Yes but you have some dependencies:

      • This relies on the 50% offer being for existing customers (and Kogan actually doing the offer).
If it’s not (ie new customers only) then you won’t be able to use the same number on your 15Gb plan.

      • You need to make sure to activate the 50% offer before it expires. If you’re going to wait a month first to use up the original data pack keep an eye on when the voucher needs to be activated.

      • Thanks!
I've just read the small print for the $5 Sim which is:
"Voucher cannot be used in conjunction with any other vouchers or promotional offers."

So I'm guessing this can't be used back-to-back with the annual deals.

        • Yes you can as long as the 50% off deal allows for existing customers.
Just let your 30 day $5 plan lapse and then immediately use the new voucher code.

        • I've been using annual deal since 2021 back to back

  • Hi! I am on $18.75 medium prepay plan 4G/30 days from 2023.7. last month I ran out 4G data, so i renewed the pland before the end of the 30 days. I was surprisingly charged $25. I requested them to (only email contact was available after initial online form submission) refund me the $6. However, they fooled me around by always asking me to update my credit card information. Although I did it and provided the screen shot and the photo of my credit card, they simply said I did not updated it so they can't refund me. Finally, the customer service Tabsheer S. no long reply my emails. As a result, I had to submit my request through the online form again. it was very frustrated.

I am wondering if i can change my prepay plan to this one year plan or I have to move my mobile plan to Spark or ONE and come back to join in this one-year plan again?

    Thank!

    • This plan is available to existing customers so no reason why you can’t change to it.
Remember it is a 365 day plan though so you want to make sure you get one with enough data. If you run out then you either have to wait for your new month to come around and go without any more data for the remainder or pay for extra which is not cheap.
      Additional data pricing

  • Thank you! I see. This is why they charged full price of $25. They simply don't regard you renew your plan at $18.75 in advance.

  • Kogan customer service sucks?
    I purchased a “Kogan Mobile Prepay: LARGE (365 Days | 15GB Per 30 Days) plan” for $250 on Oct.18, 2023(order number HJX4***) I ticked “I need a SIM card” in the order but I haven’t received a SIM card yet till Nov. 5, 2003.
I contacted them with above information. The CS Pranav P asked me additional account and credit card (last 4 digits )information and said “Do not worry at all, we will help you with this.” Today , I was replied with a link to pay $2 to buy a SIM card.
Have you had same bad experience with Kogan Mobile?

  • $2 is not a lot of money, but such a way of doing business and the customer service made customers feel very unpleasant.

    • Yeah, that's poor customer service. Does the order confirmation email say that a SIM card was part of the purchase?
