  • Suggestions that it will include TV's and Laptops although there is some debate about whether this will be tomorrow or Saturday when the sale is supposed to begin. The staff said they only found out today's pricing last night.

Lots of discounts are not marked on shelves, ask to see today's discount list. Featherston St and Manners St both let me read the discount list which allowed me to quickly scan for the best deals (They compare the new price to the previous price and the amount of stock in store).

Finally - be patient with the staff. More than one store I was speaking to said they went in at 6.30am this morning to re-ticket everything and still weren't done. Apparently they ticketed a bunch of stuff yesterday that changed in price overnight so they had to redo it this morning, they're talking needing to reticket like 700+ items today.

  • Awesome, hope display TV's etc get priced to clear too like they have in AUS

    • just make sure there is a local supplier that will honour the warranty for the product (just saying!)

      • If the worst comes to the worst you can get a extended warranty for $20 or whatever it is as they are managed by a third party, so even if DSE goes bust you can still claim under them.

        • Doubt DSE will exit NZ market anytime soon? They just introduced new range of items such as the electrical appliances. So they should still stay put for another few years testing the waters

        • @bigbosssnake: Probably not.

  • Just picked up a PS3 500GB GTA 5 bundle for $200 too.

    • good price for a ps3. Well done

      • Thanks - the pricing structure of this sale is obscure. They had a normal 500gb PS3 for $250, and the 500gb GTA bundle for $200.

        There was also a 250GB Xbox360 for $199.

  • So the price war has started…

  • Anyone know if Botany had any copies of Advanced Warfare left?

    • Give them a call in the morning? +64 9-271 4100

    • +2

What platform are you after? I have no idea about Auckland stores but I'll be popping into a few in the morning and if I see a copy I'm happy to grab it and send it to you for the price of courier.

      • Xbox One. I know DSE don't normally have much stock in games (usually 1-2 copies) and I won't be able to get to the store until lunchtime, but if I miss out I won't be missing sleep. Let me know if you do spot any bargains or hidden specials.

        • Yeah any bargains or specials I find I'll update the post here. I suspect the sales here will follow similar to Australia.

    • +1

Was at Botany just before closing, didn't see any Advanced Warfare

    • +1

I didnt see it… and it was not a very impressive or large selection on display.

    • Hey Toddy, picked up an extra copy of advanced warfare on xboxone today if you still want it.

      • Thanks Asmcar, but I managed to pick up the last copy at Sylvia Park. However, if your stuck with it I'll buy it off you.

        • I'll try flick it off on TM no worries :)

  • judging from the photo there doesn't appear to be any new or decent gaming titles. My guess is they either sold those or keep the good ones at full price.

    • I picked up the last of us for $10, and tearaway for $5 which seemed pretty good.
Saw bloodborne for $20 as well as a bunch of other games at new lynn

  • any word on todays clearance items

    • Heard from a friend that it is just small items today like cases, headphones etc, I will call later and ask.

    • +1

I've updated the OP with best deals I found today.

  • +1

    Just been to Sylvia Park.
Disney Infinity 80% off, $10 for last gen starter packs, $2 individual characters, $5 for triple-packs.
    All last gen games $10
    Xbox One & PS4 $20
    2200MAH power banks $5
    Clearance phone cables $1
    Clearance audio cables $1

Most shelves were empty and there were clearance style areas setup but not yet labelled which may go on sale later today? I was in a rush so didn't spend time checking.

About 10 games Xbox One & 20 PS4 remaining, heaps of Disney Infinity Start packs left (maybe 30+)

    • If the prices aren't displayed ask if you can see the pricing list which they have. Depending on the manager they may or may not but it has all of the up to date prices from this morning as well as previous price and stock level.

  • Some great deals out there today. Around 8 pages of markdowns although primarily on audio, phone cases, fitness trackers, powerbanks and some other stuff. Will update more details soon on my way to third store of morning.

    • Which Region are you in?

      • Wellington.

        • What stores have you been to so far?

        • Queensgate, Featherston, Manners and Johnsonville.

        • +2

          @Wellington:

Also Lyall Bay :) Stopped for the day now!

        • @asmcar: What did ya pick up? :)

        • +1

          @Wellington:

I've updated OP with what I managed to snag today. Got some amazing deals on audio stuff (Sennheiser headphones, Sony speaker, PS3 etc)

You pick anything up today? Which store is your local?

        • +1

@asmcar: Didn't pick anything up today, but I think I'll go in an get a Jawbone tomorrow. Were the price lists different at Manners and Featherstone, or the same, just with different stock levels? and thanks for the detailed update!

        • @Wellington:

For Jawbone the prices were same at Manners, Queensgate, Johnsonville and Lyall Bay. I didn't actually see the price at Featherston because I didn't see them on the sale list.

Be aware the pricing is slightly odd, there are two models on sale the JawboneUp is $49.99, and the JawboneUp24 is 39.99. The Up24 is actually the best model so make sure you get the $39.99 one - the sales staff couldn't work out why it was priced that way.

        • @asmcar: Awesome thanks, I'll go around the stores tomorrow afternoon and see what I get. :)

        • +2

          @Wellington:

I'll post updates in the OP tomorrow - planning on being out in the morning again.

        • +1

          @asmcar:

          thanks boss

        • @asmcar: what did ya manage to get at lyall Bay?

        • @bigbosssnake:

Lyall bay was my last stop of day so wasn't hunting too hard for deals.

Picked up two $2 iPhone 4/4s LifeProof cases (That was their only ones apparently), possibly one or two other things I can't remember but nothing significant.

They mostly seem to have a tonne of cases and cables discounted. Although there are some bluetooth speakers and headphones on heavy discounts I didn't look to closely because i'd gotten the best ones elsewhere already. Think they had a $99 PSP and $249 PS3 500gb console up to the right of the counter by the door too. This was at around 2pm.

        • @asmcar: Cheers bud. Wish I was free as a bird. Would have done the same thing as you! Sucks having to work at the hospital - while the bargains are out there. haha

        • @bigbosssnake:

I have the disadvantage of not even being in the country, and having to work from a beach at the moment!

        • @Shaw: You've just mentioned you got to work from a beach at the moment - why are you complaining? =p

        • +1

          @bigbosssnake:

          why are you complaining? =p

No bargains on the beach bro!

Well except the $2.50 meals etc etc.

        • @Shaw: beach

  • Apparently bigger stuff such as laptops and tv's tomorrow or Saturday

  • Small accessories, games, power banks, mobile accessories and headphones are on sale today. No big ticket items.

  • Vita 2000 $49
    Misfit shine $39
    Sony mdr1 headphones $89
    Select fitbits $49
    Belkin wemo led starter $80
    Other wemo stuff is cheap
Anything 30 pin related is discounted heavily. $1 for MOVE, $2 for Belkin

700 new tickets today mostly for cases, security, powerbanks, headphones

    • Vita for $49? Damn, my local they were $149

      • I hope that was a typo and he meant $149.i just picked one up and 10 games for $165 in total.
Didn't even know I wanted one till now

        • They were $49 in AUS so it's possible it was priced the same here

        • Nah it wasn't a typo. Did you get the slim or the older model? Maybe the latter were 149

        • @ArchSerpo:
Flip, I got the 2000 model.
What store were you looking at?

Edit: they told me it was the 2000 model but it looks like it's the original. Looks like I'm gonna take it back

        • @jarj: If you got the original you are lucky. It has a superior screen (OLED vs LED) and is generally more sought after.

        • @jarj: Which store did you visit?

        • @Toddy47: New Lynn

        • @jarj:

Albany, the one I got was their last one

        • Called most of the stores in Auckland (except the ones that don't pick up their damn phone). The $49 slim is sold out, but there's still a couple of the $149 original models.

        • @jarj:

          Which ones did you try?

        • @cloudaxel:
New Lynn, Henderson, Massey, the two on Queen, Krd, New Market, Tamaki, St Lukes Onehunga, Orewa and even Pukekohe.

        • @jarj:

Thanks, Which ones had the Original?

        • @cloudaxel:

I can't exactly remember. I got the last one in new Lynn, I think takapuna had one, and two more of them did too. Definitely not the two queen Street onew

    • The Fitbits are the Zip model.

      • +1

They've also got the jawbone up24 for $39.98 and the jawbone up for $49.98. Heaps of stock here at Westgate

        • Thanks! I might get one if the shops in Welly still have them tomorrow night. :)

    • Damn Vita, I don't think I've seen one at a DSE in a long time, so i doubt there are many floating around.

      • Plenty here in Christchurch, but they're $149 for the OLED model. Haven't seen any for $49

        • Thanks - Not sure if I'd pay $150 for something I would use a few times.

    • Mdr1 cheap.

    • $49 oh man. Probably all sold out by now. :(

  • Bought a Turtle Beach Call of Duty Ghosts headset for $33 There were a whole bunch of others for $50 and a few wireless ones for $100.

  • Any of the units actually demo stock like we are seeing in AUS? Some crazy TV/DVR bargains etc

    • Nothing from TV or DVR in sales today. Sales staff said they expect these to go on sale either Friday or Saturday however they weren't sure.

The Sony speaker I picked up today was off the shelf as it was the only one in the Wellington Region apparently. Also Johnsonville and Manners had 2-3 phones on clearance but not big savings, some were ex demo I believe. Queensgate were adamant that they had no mobiles on clearance today but they were expecting them in the next few days and said they had loads of stock out back which was interesting.

    • +1

Looked like DVRs and blueray players were on sale today, some big discounts off many of the models. Seems like there isn't too many people after them either so you might get lucky if you're still looking for one. TVs are discounted too but with the exception of 2-3 models (I didn't take notice of which ones) they aren't as cheap as they went in Australia.

  • Saw the Sennheiser Momentum over earheadphone @ Lambton in Wellington, but it wasn't marked down.

    • What'd the staff say about it?

    • +1

Did you ask the staff? A lot of deals are not advertised.

    • If they're the Momentum over ear ones they're definitely marked down from $650 to $195 since i've got some sitting here (And receipt if needed).

Edit: Also by Lambton do you mean the Featherston St store one block over?

    • Yes, Featherston St.
I didn't ask as I didn't realise they were meant to be on sale.

The on ear were showing as marked down $119.
The over ear didn't have a price.

Question, do you know if XB1 games from NZ will work on AU XB1?

      • Yes, most of my Xbox One games are US.

      • Loads of stuff isn't properly marked down either because they haven't had the time or they might be trying to not sell some stuff.

Like i've found some marked down stuff in obscure locations like on the very bottom of shelves away from everything else in that category but still labelled. I suspect as the store staff aren't technically meant to purchase anything themselves until the weekend (So I heard) they might be trying creative ways to hold onto things - tbh I don't blame them for wanting to grab deals too.

        • store staff aren't technically meant to purchase anything themselves until the weekend

Haha I saw staff from one store buying stuff from another store

        • @nem2k2:

That's why I said technically. I've seen staff outright buying things infront of me while or putting things aside for themselves later. I don't blame them i'd do it too.

        • @asmcar:
same here, saw all the good value stuff gone at my local store, most probably staff bought them all before the store even opened, lol. Have had bad experiences with DSE in the past, so not surprising feeling the same thing again now. DSE never ever again…

        • +2

          @footy7:

          DSE never ever again…

I'm sure we have all said that at some point.

In all honesty, personally, I don't really have a problem with the staff grabbing a few of the better deals if they can, even before they are available to the public. I know for sure there is no way I could ever work in an environment like that and get paid peanuts for it, so no issues with them grabbing some stuff from time to time. I know I would if given the opportunity, as would most of us in their position, whether we say so or not.

Also keep in mind that most stores would have had limited stock of most of this stuff, and that the sale has been ongoing for a few days now.

  • I bought PS4 Skylanders trap team, but only have an Xbox One. Does anyone want to swap if they have Xbox One version? Used or New.

  • +3

3 people waiting at Featherston ST DSE (Excluding me). Will pop in and take a look but not after too much today. If I get any idea of what's on clearance today will update.

    • Thanks!

      • Hey mate I'm still on the road but other comments are covering it well. Tvs, home theatre, smartphones, MacBook, iPhones, kindle, some tv's all discounted. Stock varies heavily between stores and it may be a customer return or display model.

  • Confirming that TVs iPads Phones etc are on sale today. Limited stock.

    • Any in Wellington?
Do you have any example of prices?

      • No specifics sorry. Just what I have heard.

  • Toshiba 2tb canvio 89
    Toshiba 1.5tb 69
    Kindle paperwhite 69
    Kindle paperwhite 99

    • Kindle touch WiFi or WiFi and 3g $29

      • Where was this? Kindle weren't on sale at St Lukes

        • I got a kindle touch refurb wifi + 3g at Manners St in Wellington model number D01200 DSE code A3515 for $29. Kindle Fire HD7 was $49 at Porirua DSE code TA7026. Kindle Paperwhite Wifi + 3G DSE code TA7008 $89 from Upper Hutt.

The staff can use the DSE codes I provided to look up stock in their store / other stores if they have time.

        • @asmcar: I rang a couple of stores today, and all were happy to look up the different catalogue numbers for me. :)

    • Nice hard drive prices. A staff member from another store bought all the remaining ones just as I got to the one store I was checking today. Bastard.
