  • Suggestions that it will include TV's and Laptops although there is some debate about whether this will be tomorrow or Saturday when the sale is supposed to begin. The staff said they only found out today's pricing last night.

Lots of discounts are not marked on shelves, ask to see today's discount list. Featherston St and Manners St both let me read the discount list which allowed me to quickly scan for the best deals (They compare the new price to the previous price and the amount of stock in store).

Finally - be patient with the staff. More than one store I was speaking to said they went in at 6.30am this morning to re-ticket everything and still weren't done. Apparently they ticketed a bunch of stuff yesterday that changed in price overnight so they had to redo it this morning, they're talking needing to reticket like 700+ items today.

      • There's also a seagate 1TB portable HD on sale for $49 if you can find it in stock. Johnsonville had 4 but my mate got 2 and the person at the next register grabbed the other two I think. Can probably find out product code if you're planning on taking a look tomorrow.

        • I managed to pick up a 2TB portable HDD, couldn't find any of the 1TB Seagates..

        • @coolstorybro:

Apparently the 1TB seagates are in the old packaging so the newer ones on the shelf won't scan as the $49 price. I wasn't after any though so i'm not 100% sure.

        • +1

@asmcar: That's okay. Cheers for the tip!

      • it is the reason why stores like these have lower than expected sales results

  • Auckland stores may have some $99 iPad Mini 1st Gen and iPad 4th Gen in stock.

    • Newmarket has display model Gen 4 Ipad in stock for $99, still there an hour ago.

      • and you didnt get it? =O

        • I did! Didn't even see Toddy's post until this evening. Surprised it hadn't been purchased, considering I was there after midday.

        • Yeah, I'm real broke at the moment. Ended up buying a home theatre for $119 after checking out the whole store 3-4 times.

        • @Toddy47: Did you get the Sony bdv e290? I saw it behind the counter. It seemed like a good deal, but I couldn't find any indication of its actual value online. I also went around the store multiple times, and spent far too much time there : ) There was also a HTC One M8 for approximately $80. It sold while I was there.

        • @Sam91: No, but I think that was the one I was going to buy if it was in a brown unmarked box. I opened had a look everything was in there told the guy to be it aside then instead found a brand new unopened Sony bdv-2100 which wasn't marked with a price but scanned for $119.
Edit: I googled it and they appear to be the same models so the one you saw was likely the one I was going to buy until I found an unopened one in original box.

        • +1

@Toddy47: Ah, that explains it. Looks like a pretty sweet deal. Thanks for not buying the iPad, I'm pretty stoked to get it : )

        • @Sam91:

          HTC One M8 for $80 - ex demo/display?

        • @footy7: Yeah I think so, or it was a returned item with the box open. I doubt it was brand new and unopened.

        • @footy7:
I got it. One was refurbished, the other one was new (returned)

  • Go Pro Hero 3 in white $99

    • Which store still had stock of this?

      • Don't know about nationwide but only store in Wellington showing one was Queensgate and this was at 9am

      • I grabbed the last one at Christchurch The Palms

    • Would love to get the GoPro Hero3+ Silver. Went to 3 stores, couldn't find it :/

  • Just been to Manners Store, some deals.

All Razer Gear 60-70% off (mostly gone).
    iPad Mini 16GB - $129
    iPad 16GB - $99
    Macbook Air 11.6 - $699
    S5 Cases - $1 or $2
ipad air apple cases - $10
Tablets - $29 or $49. (Nearly all gone).

Asked for the discount list, theres an asian guy working there who is being really difficult (probably as hes getting no commission today). Might try again later.

    • The iPads are gone in Welly aren't they? or was there still stock when you were there?

      • All gone

      • Yes sorry i was there around 9am but only managed to post around 10.30
But i got the last ipad mini 16gb cellular for $129. Saw the other ones had 1 or 2 available on the discount list.

        • I got there at 9am too. But didn't realise they were on sale :(
Got back at 12, and they were all gone

    • +1

The manners st store were great to me last two days although I don't think I dealt with that particular guy. So I guess YMMV

  • Samsung Galaxy tab s 16GB wifi - bronze $349 ($399 for 32GB)
    iphone 5s 16GB $367

  • +3

Sony xperia z spark model, approx $85. No stock in Wellington region I got only one at Upper Hutt.

  • Any deals on iMac? I rang up and the girl had no deal what I was talking about with clearance products

    • What store? Ask her to look on the Daily Price List for it. :)

      • Riccartion, I ended up going down for a look and they said no iMac

  • Might be worth setting up the alarm clock for this weekend:

"There has been speculation in the Australian media that Dick Smith is preparing to launch a "70 per cent off everything" sale this weekend."

    Source: NZ Herald
    http://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/news/article.cfm?c_id=3&o…

    • I Think this is the fire sale we are seeing right now.

      http://www.theaustralian.com.au/business/companies/dick-smit…

But it is possible more items will be added tomorrow has they have been over the last few days. Some more items I have seen.

      Samsung galaxy tab3 16GB $119
      Samsung galaxy mini2 VF $12
Samsung galaxy xCover 2 VF $29
      Satellite l50-C02x laptop $499
      Acer b1 16GB 7" tablet $49

I seen a guy get the last ps3 GTA for $200 wasn't on the shelf he had to ask for it.

      • I managed to get a mini 2 for $12 :)

    • It's almost definitely the sale that has been ongoing for the last few days, a bit of correspondence on OzBargain from staff that it is not going to be 70% off store wide.

  • I don't think they really had any good deals, but I only went to Featherston St yesterday afternoon and only looked at the video games.

    • The gaming section at Featherston is pretty much empty.
Some Ps4 eye but I don't think that are on sale.

      • Gaming sale started on Wednesday so most of the good stuff was gone by Thursday pretty much.

  • +1

Picked up brand new sealed box Sony BDV-E2100 for $119, normally $499
Lot's of surround sound and soundbars on display, but keep an eye out for the sealed ones, I almost bought a display until I found the exact same product in a sealed carton unmarked at the other end of the store. Not even the staff realized it was the same one.

  • +4

I've managed to take photos of today's discounts. Will upload later on

    • Sounds bloody good thanks!

    • Just got home and uploading them now. Should I make a new deal for greater visibility?

      • Let's keep it all in here, but we can always tidy up the OP, or add the latest content to the top.

        • +6

Here we go; all of today's new prices

          @ArchSerpo:

          Didn't expect that, that's one impressive list…

Have edited OP to reorder the prices to latest first, and added that image URL to the top of day 3.

    • Looking forward to this. Thanks mate

    My haul today:
    - GoPro Hero3 white $99 (Brand new)
    - 2 x LG Optimus L9 $41 each (Brand new) - used $10 mates rates discount on this so got the down to $36 each.
    - Sony Xperia Z Spark model $84 (Brand new)
    - Kindle Wifi+3G Paperwhite $89 (Brand new)
    - Kindle Touch Wifi+3G $29 (Refurb)
    - Kindle Fire HD7 $29 (Brand new)
    - Samsung GT-E3309 $3 (Brand new)

    Friends picked up:
    - 1TB seagate portable harddrive $49 (New in box)
    - Samsung 55 inch UA55F6100 FHD 3D LED TV for $399.80 (Display model but, probably best deal i've heard of today).
    - Asus T100 $99 (Out of box return)

A lot of it will be going to friends - I was on the lookout for Kindles for a few mates which is why I ended up with 3. The Sony I couldn't pass up for $84 and same with GoPro. All up I visited Featherston St, Manners Mall, Porirua, Upper Hutt and Johnsonville.

    • Great stuff mate, enjoy the loot. Glad I'm not over there, would've wasted so much $.

      • Yeah my CC has taken a bit of a hit - waiting for friends to pay me back for things need to get back in the +'s before end of month!

        • +1

Hopefully you are getting some kind of reward points, or Airpoints, or otherwise, from the spending!

        • +1

          @Shaw:

AirPoints ;) What sort of ChoiceCheapies member do you think I am!

        • +1

          @asmcar:

          Just making sure mate! Enjoy!!

    • Whoops kindle FireHD7 was $49 sorry if anyone got confused by that.

    • That's probably the best 55" LED TV deals I've seen so far even though it's display!

      • Yeah I was pretty stoked when my mate called to say he picked it up, it was from Johnsonville as well so not exactly the busiest store or anything.

        • +1

I saw another one in-store, it's a 55" Samsung LED Smart TV @ $899. Still a pretty good price if you want extra features like Wi-Fi, apps etc.

        • @coolstorybro:

So many deals! I've decided i'm done for the sale now haha, i've got way too much stuff already and i'm going to enjoy a sleep in Saturday after two days of being up for 8.30am store openings.

        • +1

@asmcar: hahaha, I must say your list of items that you bought are pretty impressive!!

  • Anyone know if the Harmony Remotes are on sale? Forgot to have look when I went in and got my Jawbone. :)

    • I had a quick look at remotes at Featherston this morning but couldn't see any discounted apart from one that was already down yesterday. I didn't see any Harmony tho so can't confirm either way sorry!

    • +1

I was in Dick Smith Riccarton (Christchurch) and they had the Harmony Ultimate for $100 (this one http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=1837708).

  • Is it store dependant?
I asked about the Kindle at Featherston, they have stock but they weren't marked down :(

    • It's the previous model of kindles. So not the ones on display the previous generation.

When I was at Featerston they only had one of the $29 Wifi/3G touch ones and it was damaged and didn't seem to boot up so I left it. Probably still there but not 100% if it even works.

    • No, it should be sku dependent. Most of the clearance stuff is discontinued products such as older Ipads.

  • +3

Also - shout out to the CC member who was sharing the price list with me at DSE Featherston St this morning shortly after 8.30, hope you like your new TV!

  • +7

Picture of the day! (And no I didn't score the deal)

  • +2

Added most of todays deals to OP.

    • Thanks for that. I've been flat out this afternoon actually doing some work for once!

  • I went to the Manukau store today, they had a lot items marked down using non-orange stickers. Noticed in the cabinet they had Bose QuietComfort 20i in ear headphones for $200. About 4 pairs in the cabinets.

    • So far in this sale i've seen the yellow clearance, the green Christmas and the red sale stickers used. It seems to be they use whatever they have so look at the 'savings' rather than the colour.

  • +1

Thanks for the heads up guys : )

    Here are my purchases:

    iPad Wifi + 3G 4th Generation 32gb - $98
    Samsung ATIV Tab 10.1 - 2GB Ram, 64GB - $99
    Samsung Galaxy Tab4 10.1 - $200
    Turtle beach X32 headset - $30

  • Any word/confirmation if there's further sales tomorrow etc?

    • Apparently so, all the existing prices should still be available if there is stock.

If you ask the media, the whole range of stock is "70% off". I'd imagine there will be plenty of people queuing tomorrow to score some bargains and leave extremely disappointed.

      • +1

They're the people that don't realise the sale started 3 days ago ;)

        • +1

Ha yea, exactly. See, everyone should be Cheapies members, then all would know and the media would be mute :x !

        • @Shaw:

I'm actually really surprised the sale hasn't spread more by word of mouth and social media. Like the most people that have been at a store at opening time has been four.

        • @asmcar:

Because no one really knew about it. If they had, it would've. Most probably just believe the media that it's a saturday sale.

        • @asmcar:

It's nuts, both the AUS and NZ sales the past few days have had next to nothing posted on social media by DS(on Dick Smith pages) until today(AUS)

        • @Teckiwi:

Yeah my suspicion is it's to give the staff time to put up thousands of new price tags.

        • @asmcar:

Well, no need for that now!

        • @asmcar: because they wouldn't be able to keep up with the number of customers

    • +1

There are very few product lines that haven't already been marked down. The only ones I can think of are computer accessories, TV/PC/AV cables, and electrical gear. Apart from the possibility of even further discounts on top of current ones I doubt there's too much more to get excited about

      • that's what I was thinking, most of the good stuff(cheapest laptops, tv's, tablets, gopros etc) should be now gone

  • Comment from staff: Dick Smith is clearing ALL GAMING ITEMS. So no more gaming gear for Dick Smith from now on. Games, Headsets, Consoles, accessories etc.

If you're on the lookout for a PS4/XBone, it could be worth waking up early tomorrow, and call the stores.

  • I went to the Botany store and asked a young guy for a print out of whats on clearance… I just got a vacant look and handed the usual mailer on display.

    • +1

Yea, you get some like that, it doesn't take much intelligence to work in such positions (Not that that's a judgement on all who do, but the benchmark isn't very high).

      • I was told not everything was on sale, so I suspect each store/branch is different? Perhaps stores that are not performing well will have steeper discounts (to clear stock)

        • Everything being on sale was simply what was reported in the media, this sale seems to be just older stock/clearing lines like gaming.

  • Anyone willing to buy and send an Asus Nexus 7 32GB to Melbourne, Australia?

    • Likely all gone by now.

    • Postage probably cost more than the unit itself

  • I was actually wondering, did anyone happen to grab a cheap 10.1" tablet keyboard case? Doesn't matter what model, if you aren't planning to use it, might be interested in buying it off you. If you did, PM me, cheers.

    • Weren't on sale yet for 10 inches. 8 inches were on sale though. Which region are you in NZ?

      • I'm in Thailand, but will cover shipping to parents place.

        • Permanently in Thailand or just on tour? Will have a look around today. Gonna head in at 8am.

        • @bigbosssnake:

Can you update if there's anything new included today that's a good deal? Not planning on going in but can always be swayed by a bargain!

          You in Wellington?

        • @asmcar: Hey ya, just been to dse lyall Bay. According to the guys, nothing new added. Just what ever that's left…

        • Got a very nice casing for $8. Will take a photo later. Are you still interested?

        • @bigbosssnake:

You still at dse Lyall? I'm almost there coming from Featherston.

Edit: I'm not associated with DSE just accidentally hit checkbox
