Slingshot: $59.95/Mo Unlimited 300/100 Fibre Broadband on 12-Month Term (+ Extra $5/Mo Modem Hire or BYO) @ Fast Connect

230

I've been searching for the best broadband deal for me. I was happy to commit to 12-months but wanted a nice clean deal without needing to bundle power or mobile.

I almost went with Skinny which was the equivalent of $68.75/mo ($75 for 11 months)
Then I almost committed to Slingshot at $65/mo (through BroadbandCompare).

However a comment by @jjjj in a previous deal put me onto FastConnect and when I enquired with them, they offered me the Slingshot 300 plan for $59.95/mo. The "normal" undiscounted price for this plan on their website is $97/month.

Here's how I got the deal:
1. I filled in the form at https://www.fastconnect.co.nz/connect/broadband
2. I received a phone call and follow-up email offering Slingshot FIBRE 300/100 Mbps for $59.95/mo (and some other more expensive options).

Hopefully this works for you too.

<update>
to give you more details of the process:

After completing the form, FastConnect called me within 24 hours. They provided the options to me, I agreed to the Slingshot deal and they then passed my details to Slingshot for onboarding. My broadband agreement is with Slingshot directly.

</update>

Make sure you read the terms and conditions, but it was pretty standard stuff. The only catch I found is you need to give 30 days notice of termination which my old provider didn't require.

  • My contract expires in a few months, but I’m already with slingshot!

    • @Joshyss: I am thinking to join them. How is their service? There are so many bad reviews on Slingshot.

      • Been with Slingshot for a few years now on 300/100. The quality of the service has been fine.

I regularly get 35 - 40MB/s from Steam or decent overseas file hosts with a download manager.

Once every few months the service might drop between 12am - 6am for 5 minutes, but for all I know it could be Chorus doing sheduled maintenance.

      • I haven’t really had anything to do with them to be fair. I do have to reset my modem every so often I wake and connections been lost. This is a brand new Asus modem too.

Their reviews are extremely bad everywhere.
Any reviews from fellow cheapies ?
There is deal from broadbandcompare as well from now broadband.

    • I used to be with Orcon for ages, moved to Slingshot a few months ago, it's basically the same, it's decent but I guess there are better options out there, personally I will be moving back to Orcon if/when they have a good deal again and after my 12 months, the problem with both is that they both have CGNAT, so if I could find a decent provider that doesn't use CGNAT that would be awesome.

      • I don't have CGNAT with Orcon? (yet)

      • +1

I have family with Slingshot and their connection doesn't have CGNAT.

  • They ask to fill a form with too many sensitive information. Why do they need my passport details or driver's detail?

    • +1

You only supply a name, phone number and email. The form is on the page I linked to.

  • Costs me $54 for gigabit by having power and mobiles bundled in.

    You're welcome!

  • Will the Skinny Fibre Modems work with Slingshot without any issues? I was with Slingshot back in the ADSL days and had quite a lot of issues with support and outages which were solved by changing ISP. So not sure if they have improved since then. Although they are basically a 2Degrees brand these days.

    • +2

Yes, but you will need to reconfigure the modem by following their instructions online. I did it last year without much problem.

      • which model do you have? I have an Arcadyan one from my previous plan.

    • I've got the same Skinny modem and will need to reconfigure for it to work with this plan, will be the first time doing this with a modem. Hopefully not too technical.

  • I'm still on Two Degrees std Fibre (my deal finished but haven't found much of an incentive to switch for 12 mths)
    but need to!
Two degrees have now offered me unlimited wireless for $60…but won't the speeds be super slow?

    • Don't go wireless if you have fiber.

Slingshot, One NZ, are rubbish, even contact energy has more stable connection

    • Not true. It depends on lots of factors. Very happy with Slingshot no issues since 6 months now. Have been with them few times over last 10 years. Main thing is the router which many of them have problem with and normally that's the starting point for a problem. Configuration, location in the house, not hiding it inside something, interference this things matter a lot which some don't understand. I use my own router and it is in the house away from almost all interfering devices and centrally located to get maximum coverage. I understand lot of people don't have that option but that is what matters.

I have services hosted which are exposed outside and some of them gets used quite frequently. And never had the outage due to internet/broadband. Can't comment on other providers. Also, this is my experience that doesn't mean others will have the same. Just my 2c.

      • True on my end and thru experience. Awesome to hear you have had no issues

  • thanks, signed up

  • Been happy with Slingshot since I joined them two weeks ago. Orbi modem covers my three-bedroom house well and internet hasn't dropped once. I'm in Hamilton. YMMV.

I just called Slingshot and got this plan.

It is much more convenient for me to call when it suits me rather than wait to be called by fastconnect. No wait times at 4 pm on a Friday, very satisfied. The retentions team/sales can get this offer for you.

  • Just got called by fastconnect and got the deal, will decide to go ahead with it on Monday. Whats the Slingshot customer service like if any issues? Never been with Slingshot currently with Skinny. Will save $20/month.

Whats the chance Skinny will match this to retain my, um, customership?

    • Customer service is pretty bad, same as any company under 2degrees

      • Not my experience, called today and it's the best customer service I've ever had. No wait times.

  • I signed up with Slingshot about 10 months ago using a deal from Glimp (first 4 months free).

I had to get fibre installed by Chorus so it took longer than usual, and they screwed up actually turning it on.

To top it off they never applied the 4 months free, and based on how unbelievably useless their customer service is I haven't got around to investing the hours that will no doubt be required to get them give me my free months. Now that I think about it I should probably do it now since the 12 months will be up soon.

I would recommend NOT going with Slingshot with one of these sign up deals.

  • 2 years ago my Skinny broadband contract was about to run out and I made the move to Slingshot as they had a 3 months free deal. In 12 months every time I speed test I never get the 300/100 speed they are advertising. At the most my download speed would max out at 120-130 Mbps. I contacted their customer service which suggested I use their Orbi router. I tried it for a month and it did not make any difference at all. After 12 months I moved back to Skinny, and back to getting full speed again.

  • Thanks, signed up. Does anyone know if the router from Contact is ours to keep?

  • +1

Slingshot also charge an extra 1% credit card fee

  • +1

Bummer, I signed up for 12 months a month ago with the 4 months free deal making it $64.67 over 12 months. No issues thus far though

  • Did anyone else receive an email from slingshot with the incorrect price stated ($64.95)? It may just be a typo

    • My email said $97 with a $37.05 discount

      • My email said $102 with a $37.05 discount

        • Did you take the rental router ($5/mth)?

        • You've got the modem rental.

  • Oof, they were very quick with the calling! And repeated calling when I missed, haha. Thanks, signed up, awaiting my email from slingshot to make sure I don't have the rental router.

  • Thanks for sharing - I have got it!
