  • Anyone use this?
    How good it is?
How is it for streaming, gaming, bittorrent?
Dose it work nice with a VPN?

    • +2

Absolutely fine. But be very careful, if you're on the free 9-12 plan, they switch you to a different one (it's in the fine print). I was hammering the heaters during winter thinking it was free, sigh :(

      • Can you change back to the evening plan or does that void this deal?

        • +1

Oh I was able to change back. Just a shame I didn't realise until October.

      • Where in the fine print does it say about this? I can't see it anywhere.

Can you have broadband and stay on the Good Nights plan (free usage 9pm to 12pm)?

        • I was on good night plan and broadband 6 months ago. Now have left the broadband. Might be new policy now

  • How would one get this offer if they are currently with contact broadband

    • You wouldn't, it's an incentive to get new customers

      • +1

Can I get this offer if I have signed up to the $300 credits one last September and left after 2 months (now with Electric Kiwi)

        • +1

The Offer is not available to customers who have previously signed up to a special Contact Broadband offer in the last 6 months and is not available in conjunction with any other offer.

          It's in their T&Cs

          • +1

@fake: How did they calculate it? I signed up last September so is it consider 7 months now? Lol

  • +1

I am assuming they have CGNAT?

    • Would assume so, i've asked if I can have a static IP, will be jumping ship if yes, but I don't like my chances.

      • +1

        They go through Devoli.

        • use CGNat and don’t offer static IPs.
I checked with them last time

You could setup a VPS to get around it.

Otherwise just sign up for the cheapest 4g plan on top of your current connection to get the $400 credit and then cancel it.

    • +1

Yes they have CGNAT, I just left contact for this reason, they didn't seem to offer a static ip or being removed from the GCNAT.

      • +2

For the lesser knowledgeable, what is CGNAT and why does this influence your broadband provider decision so much?

        • +1

It really doesn’t matter for most people.

Just means everyone shares an IP, so it makes it harder to have outside access to a server at your house.

A static IP (which they don’t offer) or a VPS would be some options to get around it if it’s something you found you needed.

        • +1

They bundle people into an ip so it makes external access back to your home network annoying or not possible.

If you run a server or game it can be a pretty big negative.

If you're only using the Internet to do basic stuff like Netflix and Facebook etc it's not a problem.

They also do not offer any solutions to this.

      • I rung them up and they said they can offer a public IP, which should be good enough for things for Plex. Although I didn't end up going with them trying this out.

  • Any Bigpipe long termers switch over to Contact? What's the verdict?

  • +1

After 30 days, if you stop using their broadband, it seems you can still keep the credit for the electricity. Am I right please?

If you leave Contact within 30 days from when you are successfully connected to Contact services, the Offer will cease to apply, and no credit or refund will be given

  • +3

you should be able to get the $100 credit from joining electricity via referral then join broadband afterwards for $400 extra?

  • How long do you need to keep the broadband service to get the $400 dollars? I imagine its 12 or 24 months? Couldnt see it on the t&cs.

    • There is no contract. Essentially atleast 1 month. Depending on when you get $400 either you can disconnect within 1st month or max 2 months.

      • They will claw it back if you disconnect within 30 days.
So it would be best wait until after that.

  • +1

RIP. I just did the $300 at end of March before the deal finished.

  • You can also use the code SWITCH400 if you switch broadband to contact. Work if you only signed up for power, and not broadband.

  • Currently with them on the Goodnights plan.

Anyone able to verify the bundle either? (an additional $10 off if you're with them for Electricity + Gas); $70p/ for Fibre 300, $85 for Fibre Max

Scratching my head at how they go into so much detail with the broadband but completely ignores which power plan you might get switched to…

    • I’m currently on the free weekends plan. Just confirmed with them I can stay on that plan and get the joining credit for broadband. Will go through with it and see what happens.

      • Will the referral work?
$100 credit from joining electricity via referral then join broadband afterwards for $400 extra?
We mostly use more power in the weekends too, (laundry cleaning) hot water is natural gas and its getting very expensive. Used to half the total bill for power

        • If you have piped gas then GAS300 might be of interest.

You can't stack it with the referral credit as you can only use one code when signing up, but you may be able to add broadband later - once electricity has been transferred - if one of the $400 deals are still going.

  • You can't select wireless broadband right? I only have fibre option

    • I did. Keep looking.

      • I did contact them. They don't service my location for wireless broadband.

  • Anyone switch to this? I've signed up and after a month the credit didn't go through - they claim I didn't enter the code which is preposterous.

    • Yup I got it

  • Can people who have moved so some file download tests please? Preferably from onedrive or https://tools.hostnetworks.com.au/testfiles/
Was getting over 35 MB/s with previous ISP but lot lower now so wondering what others are getting. Funny thing is I get lot better download speeds when downloading files over VPN.

  • Anyone know if this deal is still active? Can't find traces of this promo on the website anymore

  • Yah, I just tried to sign up a new connection for power, gas and internet and the code didn't work. Anyone knows if this still works?

    • It was working two days ago. Unfortunately it seems we have missed out.
