    Crazy cheap! Awesome work

WOW, that is wild! Amazing :) thanks for posting!

Air NZ would charge more to go to Queenstown, FFS.

  • Insane.. amazing find.

  • Some of those fares are literally less than the return fare to Auckland from CHCH I'd need to book to take one.

I really want to go… Such a sort timeframe to get organised though!

(And I have few commitments and actually likely could do it. I don't know how many one with a job that actually expects them to show up regularly or had kids manage??)

  • Is it a good idea to get flights from one of the chinese cities to another destination?

    • I would choose high-speed rail because it's more comfortable and offers a similar price, if not cheaper.

      • I meant flying to a chinese city then flying off to places like istanbul etc

        • can you fly to another chinese city (to go to 3rd country) without a chinese visa?

        • If you are on a 144-hour transit visa, you are technically limited to visiting certain cities.

However, if you have a tourist visa, you can fly to different cities within the country and then depart to another country. The tourist visa allows you to visit any city and fly out from there, just like in any other country.

  • Keep in mind that visa fees are $105 per person, plus $15 admin fee.

    • you'll also need to ensure you have a visa, this includes going to the consulate and providing your fingerprints before you are issued a visa. given the 1-2 week process the cheapest flights here aren't really accessible unless you have one already.

if you use it as a transit stop it's fine as you can stay in china for 48hrs these days (not sure why you would do that though as i am sure the next leg is expensive).

I applied for a Visa on Tuesday night, accepted Wednesday, approved today (Thursday), for pickup on Tuesday (without express service) so definitely achievable <7 days.
        Tourist visa cost $105

    • NZ visitor visa cost $211 for them, so it's still a bargain.

      • +1

I'm not saying this isn't a great deal — it is. I'm just pointing out that there's an extra fee to be mindful of if you want to grab some of these flights.

        • Understood, no argument there. Just trying to stay on the cheerful side. :)

    • Unless you qualify for Visa Free under these passports https://www.china-briefing.com/news/china-visa-free-travel-policies-complete-guide/#:~:text=UPDATES%20(May%2015%2C%202024),starting%20from%20May%2015%2C%202024.
Or visit Hainan/Haikou on 30 days visa free.

  • Crazy cheap.
If I was younger and had no kids nor work commitments, this would be a wicked opportunity.

But alas, kids are fun in other ways. Maybe one day with fares like this I'd be able to take them to China!

  • Do any of them actually run through July? Looks like most end 11th June.

    • +1

Sorry -basically yes, but I was just doing a scan of the cheapest ones I could find, but I can't search every single date. But I did see similar pricing in July so that's the range. There will be more dates than I put, and possibly even cheaper, I just can't check every single combo :/

      • Cool! Thanks for replying, and for all the work you do. I'll have a scout around for July dates.

  • What an awesome find @beatthatflight! Would there be anything at these amazing fares to Shenzhen for around 2 weeks (plus minus a couple of days is fine) for anytime from late June to August? I tried searching a few dates but no luck..

    • Just checking the logs of my script. Found this one $562 which might be of interest. All I've got, sorry.

      • Thanks a lot for checking! Although it's not much use for me departing from Melbourne haha.

  • do Hainan airlines offer free transit hotel?

  • +2

Is there a way to land in Shenzhen, stay up to 48 hrs, the train to Hong Kong, so you avoid the China visa and just be in transit in China? Can do the same stop in China for up to 48 hrs on the way back.

    • Great question!

    • In theory this should allow for 144 hr transit without visa in both directions in Shenzhen as you are travelling to a third country / region (Hong Kong).

There's a bit of fine print to read though to confirm this

    • I was there back in November last year, AFAIK there's no international transfer area of any kind ( to other flights, ferry etc.) in Shenzhen airport. Once you deboard, the only way out is through immigration and customs at Shenzhen.

Anyway I think you'll need a China visa in order to get checked-in at Auckland, because the destination in your ticket is China.

  • +1

just checking my T's and dotting my I's.

the transit visa is processed at the FINAL chinese destination right?

    for example

    Akl - Shenzhen - Shanghai

it's processed in Shanghai, not Shenzhen??? (therefore eligible for travel in shanghai area)

    • +1

You can claim the 24hr visa-free transit, but if you want the 144 hr visa-free transit you can't travel through multiple regions in China.

So AKL-SZX-PVG is not allowed unless you are travelling to a third country with 24 hours.

    • You still need visa. 72/144 free visa only valid if you are going into another country.
I had to take straight flight from akl to haikou just to avoid visa fees. Otherwise akl-shangai- haikou was almost 50% cheaper.
$105 per person. So if you have an infant, you still pay $105 for them too.
