  • $665 for Christchurch to Bali has gone?

    • Argh, seriously? It was there 30 min ago and at 7am. Sigh. I'll update the price unless I find another one.

These deals are getting too good.

  • @beatthatflight myself always skeptical booking through OTA's, but is there a way to check/assure if baggage will be through-checked?

    • Depends on the route, and the airline. If say you're just in transit in SYD/MEL for example, yes, it should get through-checked as you can't go out to get your bag. If it's two different airlines, they'll tell you at check in, but if it's on the same ticket it should, is my understanding. However I don't know every scenario, and there are always exceptions.

Random story tho - twice I've actually had this where I did transit when I couldn't access a non-through checked bag (I was an idiot, going via Manila once with two diff airlines ,and another time through Tashkent). In Tashkent, someone went and found the bag for me, and in Manila they frog-marched me through security to ID my bag, then frog marched me back :P

just as an example, I clicked the cheapest deal from Auckland to Bali which uses Qantas and Garuda Air.
Being unsure of through-checked baggage, the transit time may not be enough if indeed you need to check baggage in again.

Compound this with someone who needs a visa to enter Australia, I may never get my baggage!

        • Yep, if it's international to international (as in this case), you stay in one terminal, do need to pass through security again, but as your booking is on one ticket, it will be checked through.

If instead you'd bought a return from AKL to MEL, and a return from MEL to DPS, then the bag would 'disembark' in Melbourne and you'd need a visa to get out to get it.

edit: Also, just in case someone happens across this and if you were flying AKL via [MEL and SYD] to DPS, then you'd have a domestic flight in the middle and would have to clear immigration and collect your bag to be inspected by customs, before re-checking it in.

Always check the terms of your ticket and the immigration site: https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/getting-a-visa/visa-li… in case things change.
