For anybody shopping for a EV, it is well worth checking trademe for ex-demo's as their are some massive discounts to be had (not on tesla's, but for other brands).

In the same segment as the Model Y, is the EV6, where ex demo Air RWD's LR start at $62,990. A lot more real world range then the base model y, Vehicle to load & 800v fast charging, but less powerfull & less cargo space.

Or the 430kW EV6 GT for $85k (down from $130k).

Most Makes & Models have steep discounts

Lots of Model Y for sale too at a pretty steep discounts.

They are largely private sales, But yeah, a number a new enough to appeal to the same buyer as ex-demo cars.

Cars don't seem to be selling at the moment. People are feeling the pinch.

BYD Atto 3 long range demonstrator models for under $40K are an absolute bargain

    • I keep looking, seen small Ora's for $26k and the ldv ute for $40k which are dead cheap for nearly new EVs with their range. Add in 1% finance from most banks of you have a mortgage and theirs some great deals to be had. At the way they are going though I can't help but think they will go down more soon.

"At the way they are going though I can't help but think they will go down more soon."

That is the underlying issue for the EV market. Prices seem to be dropping so fast that the FOMO of two years ago is long gone, replaced with a Fear of overpaying.

And off course everybody got use to zero depreciation in the wake of the pandemic, so this return to normal (or even greater) new car depreciation has had quite an impact on people's thinking.

    • Don't buy it. There's thousands of them sitting in Australia unsold.

Welcome10 not working, anyone else got a two for 1 code and free shipping?

      Dad joke

Yes, hard to justify this when you could (with some shrewd negotiation) get a 2023 model y in the late 40'000s privately.

If the clean car discount was still available I might have finally pulled the trigger on a new Tesla but still, no hurry to jump on this due to the massive depreciation.

Really, 2024 and there are still people peddling this exaggerated crap? Yes the battery will degrade, that's a given but not at the same rate as a phone. The degradation are much too slow for it to be an issue with a person than can afford a Tesla.

EDIT: I'm surprised there is no complaints about how they can't tow their boat or caravan that they may only use "once per year" either?

As a MY owner myself I wouldn't even think about getting a hybrid/ICE again. I am on Contact Good Night plan and haven't had to pay for petrol/electricity for it. Yes, the battery degrades over time but there are also less moving parts in an EV so less servicing costs. Everything has their pro's and con's so just choose something that suits your personal needs.

      • So are you saying that you get the same range from hybrid after 8-10 yrs and minimal depreciation. There is no degradation in hybrid battery after that period?

Actively cooled batteries in any EV including Tesla is no way near or comparable to mobile phone batteries.

Have you considered the total ownership of an hybrid vs EV(80% charging at home) after 10 years? Plus the experience of driving an EV especially MY is no way comparable to any hybrid out there in similar price or even below $80k.

Very happy owner of MY since 20months. Definitely will buy another EV in future, depending on what's good at the time.

          • @Gamzallup: That's fine, as I am not going to sell for next 10 yrs anyways, so why should I bother about depreciation.

          • @Gamzallup: Battery tech on MY is not new and it has been proven not only by Tesla but other EVs as well.

By the way '21 Tesla 3 unicorns are still well priced though old.

      • Travelled to Wellington from Auckland in a Model 3 RWD with one stop at the supercharger no problem.
