For anyone wondering these are 2.1A charging ports. However, i can't find info about whether thats shared - a lot of devices like these share a total current across both ports.

  • It says 2.1A total. So charging two devices simultaneously would be around 1A each.

    • Yeah, I reckon it would be 1A when charging two devices. But hey, you can still plug in your wall charger so you get another USB port? haha. I have the older Jackson wall plug, it's 1Amps in both port regardless of charging 1 devices.

      • IIRC Super Cheap Auto used to carry a 3A 2xUSB Charger adapter for ~$16, but I can't find the item on their website anymore.

        • They went on clearance once.

  • Haven't seen these in two different stores sadly.

    • I think the Belkin ones (similar with 2 USB port) are $10 too. So have a look around

I think only the bigger stores carry them. (Sylvia Park, Manukau etc.)

      You're Christchurch based right?

If you're really keen on one I'm flying Wellington - Christchurch today, happy to grab one for you in Wellington if I happen to see stock this morning in the two stores I'm going to.

Let me know prior to 11am and I'll keep an eye out, obviously no guarantees on stock level.

      • Couldn't see any sorry mate!

The Northwood store appears to have a lot in stock in Christchurch, they're on back right wall. Only one of the hooks has the price label and is partially obscured.

      • +1

Thanks for that, I have gotten two this morning from Northwood :) sorry just saw your messages!

Good grief, so what will be next week's special? Display signs, display shelves, used manager's chair, ex shop counter top, ex display glass cabinets, etc etc …

    • +2

Maybe a good old ball-sweaty hanky from dick himself!

    • Was chatting to a staff member about this last week, how they're fast running out of non discounted items! They certainly have enough empty shelving now to sell some of it off.

    • They might have to sell off their rolls of pricing labels as the only ones they need nowadays are "clearance" ones. They either have large warehouse stock of these products that are current and are clearing overstocked inventory, or they are discontinuing a lot of lines.

    • I have the exact same Jackson wall plug, it's only 1 Amp in each port. It's not that good, get the newer Jackson one that's 2 Amps!

Yeah while not ideal, I posted as an alternative for those who can't find this in-store as it was available for click & collect.

I did some research for those who may not be aware: The current Iphone comes with a 1 amp charger, so using this you can charge 2 Iphones at the same rate as the standard charger with no issues. However, most tablets come with 2.1 amp chargers so if you had 2 devices charging at once, your tablet would only charge at half the speed, taking twice as long. If you have a device which has Quick Charge 2.0 or whetever, then you are better off using the supplied charger if you want to utilize the "super fast" charging as you need a compatible device to use this feature, and they can cost quite a bit.

        • Some warranties can also be voided if not using supplied device. Not an issue for older gear.

        • And I would also like to add, there's a Belkin charger for $5 with 2 x 2 amps Quick charging USB port with a Apple cable available for $5. There's still a couple left @ some store. Heaps of Philips one in Auckland central store, Takapuna, Onehunga if anyone is still interested. Few left @ Botany.

        • @coolstorybro: I haven't been able to find the $5 Belkin I dug through like 4 bins with shitty 30-pin cables trying to find it.

        • @Toddy47: found a few in Takapuna. Took 1, so there's around 2 or 3 left in-store. None at Botany and Auckland Central I think. Of and there's heaps of Philips 6 way surge board for $10 in Takapuna store and Auckland Central.

        • @coolstorybro: Hi can you please link exactly which Belkin 2 x 2 amps quick charge you are referring to so I know what I am looking for? Thanks.

        • @Sam91: thanks. Great so the ones I paid $20 for in this sale then…

        • @ahmad:

Coolstorybro might be referring to another charger, I was just guessing. I bought the one pictured a week ago for $5. I'm surprised you paid $20 for them. I went hunting for some more on Thursday, they were still $5 at that point.

        • @ahmad: There's actually a few Belkin Charger available. The one I was referring to was same as the one Sam91 mentioned. $5.

        • @coolstorybro: Just saw this at Dick Smith Timaru today for $79

        • @ahmad: Maybe they haven't updated the ticketed price
? DS staff are really slack when it comes to putting up clearance tickets.

Zaggkeys Bluetooth Folio for iPad Air $40, looks like it's $117 elsewhere
Philips EasySpeed GC2048 $70, cheapest on Pricespy by $28

I'm just adding any deals I see as I come across them, none are worth their own post.

    • FYI The only store that has that iPad Air keyboard is Taupo. I saw that same deal yesterday but felt the stock is so low it's not worth posting.

      • Hmm, I'm pretty sure when I viewed it, it was available for shipping.

I've just come back from Botany (where there are 2 left). Dick Smith also have most of their HDMI cables on clearance with the 5m ones costing $10 and another brand "Platinum HDMI 2.0" cables on clearnace for $10-$20, so if your in the market for HDMI 2.0 it may be worth a visit.

There are a ton of them in the Manukau store (30+) but it doesn't have a sale tag so no one is buying them. I find the Manukau store is generally poor at putting tags on sale items. Onehunga also has about 7 in stock.

If you're OK with just having 1 USB charging port per plug, this Belkin charger is even better value. At $2 you can just throw away the USB-30pin cable and use it as a USB charger. There are a few left in Onehunga but none in Manukau.

      • Ahh, I haven't seen that Belkin in any of the stores I've visited. Would be good for Raspberry Pi or spare.

        • +1

You can always call up a store and give them the product code. (A7487) If they don't have it you can ask them to check the other stores.

      • Strangely enough, this product doesn't show up on the DSE website in an availability search. Even the photographed product code doesn't come up.

        • +1

Many clearance items are not available online, but it's in their system. So call them up.

        • Yeah they didn't show half the cameras they had instore online.

Totally random business model also, like they went all in on shitty talent and phone cases etc.

      • There's heaps at Takapuna store (20+), couple left for 2x USB Quick Charge Belkin for $5.

      • Oh yea, grabbed one of those from Hastings, gave the 30 pin to family member. It's really small too, so that's handy.

  • +1

Sylvia Park still have quite a few of the Philips one, but not recommended to go there if you suffer easily from road rage, parking rage or shopping rage…

That Belkin model looks better value, wished I had seen that instead…

  • Edit: Been posted somewhere else : )

  • Hi can anyone please link exactly which Belkin 2 x 2 amps quick charge has been referred to above in the comments to so I know what I am looking for? Thanks.
