What's the coverage like? I gather Apple and Samsung's advantage is all the devices from other people help locate your tag if it gets lost. I think i've met two people with a Tile, and therefore the app installed.
Google just launch it's Find My Device network https://www.zdnet.com/article/google-finally-launches-its-fi…
Here a some comparison with different trackers https://www.tomsguide.com/us/best-key-finders,review-2657.ht…
I'm researching each tracker to see which is future proof.
So it seems Google's Find my has a large network that can help locate the device, but only a few trackers/devices in the market with more coming soon.
Samsung and Apple have a large network by just having a large market share.
Tile seems like the sort of thing that's useful to find your keys in your own house, but less useful to track something lost/stolen outside the house given so few people would have the app installed, is my takeaway from the implied coverage
I have an old iPhone 11 just for Airtags, as the Apple crowd-location network is by far the best worldwide. I keep the iPhone tucked safely away in my car.
I had a 4 pack tiles a few years ago and left one in the car, i almost never get a location reading as there are very few people using Tile. When i used my phone to find tiles they work less than half of the times even if the tiles are sitting right next to the phone.
Besides it requires to use your location AT ALL TIMES. Would definitely getting the Samsung tags if using a Samsung phone.
Thanks for the feedback
These tile trackers are subscription based if you want the same tracking extra as a Samsung or Apple which is include.
Don't get Tile, they suck.
These ones don't have replaceable batteries. Well technically you could replace them, but it's a bit of a process. The ones that I got can replace batteries easily and they're the same size. However, I don't recommend using a Tile because the coverage sucks. As others have said, you need to enable location on your phone the whole time, as well as bluetooth. The Tile app sucks and is a battery drain.
I'm an Android user, but I ended up getting AirTags and also Momax PinTag. AirTags have better coverage because of the many iPhone devices out there. But since it has the anti-tracking feature, it means that a thief with an iPhone can alert them that an unknown AirTag is "following" them and is within the vicinity, which means they can easily locate your AirTag on e.g. an eScooter and throw it away, preventing you from finding it. The Momax PinTag doesn't have this problem and it still uses the Apple Find My network, but it doesn't do precision tracking. From memory, both AirTag and Momax PinTag can replace the batteries easily. I basically just have a spare iPhone that I'll use for tracking the tags, in case I lose my valuables.
What your thought on the Pebblebee SMRT tag that works with the new google find my device network or just stick with Samsung smart tag?
I haven't used the Pebblebee tag before, so I can't really comment on it. But it seems rather pricey.
From memory, I believe Samsung smart tags only work with Samsung devices, it doesn't work with the Google's Find My network or whatever it's called.
When it comes to these trackers, the more devices out there that can update your tag's location, the better. This is why I always prefer to get something that works on the Apple or Google's Find My network, because it will work with a wider range of devices.
It also depends on what exactly you're looking for. I wanted precision tracking and this is only available with Apple AirTag (as far as I know), as it comes with the ultra-wide band that supports precision tracking. But you'd also need an iPhone that supports this, I think starting from at least iPhone 12. Other devices that support Apple Find My won't have precision tracking, but they do support anti-stalking and so you kinda need 2 different tags for the same item if you want to minimize the risk of the thief finding and taking out your AirTag. I don't know whether the equivalent of precision tracking is available for Google's Find My tags, but if there is one I'd like to know.
I have Airtags and Samsung Smart Tags versions 1 and 2.
Smart tags are much better and get just as many sightings, if not more, as an Airtag. Smart tag comes with attachment point so tag does not need the added cost of a airtag cover, has family sharing, does not have a stupid airtag antitracking beep that tells a thief there is an airtag on stolen item, and V2 has good battery saving modes.@Sickman: Yeah but the problem is:
"The SmartTag 2 only works with Samsung phones running Android 11 and above, and they need to have UWB support. It not only requires SmartThings as a companion app, but the app has to be specifically installed on a Samsung phone."
Not everyone using Android use a Samsung. And I personally dislike using Samsung for many reasons, which I won't bother getting into. Even if someone gives me a brand new Galaxy S24 (or whatever the latest version is) for free, I wouldn't use it.
@NovaAlpha: Yes, need Samsung Galaxy phone for smart tag. I only have Android 9 so cannot use UWB feature which is a gimmick anyway.
Need Apple iphone for airtag, only 1 user can see tag.
Now Google Find for tags has just been released things may change a bit
If you have used tile in the past and it was good, it no longer is.
With all the apple users moving to airtags, and the active hostility to background apps on recent android versions, even with the app installed people will not be tracking the tiles basically ever, unless they open the app and let it run.
I would avoid tile now, as I had my keys with one in a car being towed to mechanic across Auckland, and there was a total of 2 pings picked up on the journey. In the past it would have had near constant coverage.
Tiles are the worst product, trust me don’t get these. I used to own some and they were useless, so I decided to invest the money and get some AirTags and they have been fantastic!
Also the company that now owns Tile has a lot of privacy concerns and has been accused of selling customers data to almost everyone.
No idea if there's a difference, but you can get a grey 4-pack for $99.99 at JB

or a 2 pack for $60 at PB

Didn't have a thorough look so may be cheaper elsewhere.
