  • Would the Canon Eos 100D or the 1200D deal be better value?

    • +2

I would definitely go for the 100D - it's got better specs (better res screen, touch screen, much smaller, continuous autofocus during video etc) and a great size factor. Combined with one of their small pancake STM lenses like the 24 or 40mm it gives you a great walk-around camera that's about the same size as many mirrorless offerings. I often end up using mine instead of my higher-specced camera and lenses because it's so handy.

We got a Kiss X7 (Same model, just Japanese) when we were over there, wife loves it. Cost something like $600 for the twin lens kit, sd card, and bag.

That is the Australian Dick Smith site though.

Does anyone know about Akai TVs. Are they any good? Do they upscale UHD?

    • +1

Never heard of them, how are you getting them over here (Assuming you are referring to your post above)? The shipping would surely kill the deals.

Reason for your neg of the deal?

      • I read akai upscale their tvs to make them seem UHD

I bought one of these TVs off the cuff. I was surprised to see a UHD TV under $1K! 55", great picture quality, Im no expert but there's a noticeable difference in quality from my old 1080p TV. One point of concern for me though, is that I can't seem to find any information about these particular models on the net. Maybe they're a brand new product?
So far Ive been watching upscaled 1080p on this TV, Ive yet to work how I can run a native 4k video on it.
          Thumbs up so far…

        • @fulladubbs:

Thanks for sharing, was interested to hear from anyone who bought it - glad it has been good thus far.

I've always found very little information on Akai models for both AU and NZ deal posts, sometimes struggle to even find a picture. Might need to contact Akai directly with any questions.

It seems like Noel Leeming has matched the price for the Huawei P8 Lite Smartphone to $199 as well (and you get FlyBuys with that)
