ASUS ROG Rapture GT-AX6000 Router $299.40, ASUS RT-BE88U (BE7200) Router $559.30 + Shipping ($0 C&C/ in-Store) @ PB Tech

80

Great price for dual band routers with Merlin support.

AX6000 is far newer than AX86/88U being sold for similar or higher price as used.

Good price drop on the recently released WiFi 7 variant of these - BE88U too

However I can vouch for ax6000. Very happy with it for a while now.

    • dang, wondered why no one had found this earlier. sorry, please delete the post.

      • Might be alright because it wasn't mentioned in the title of that post but can't remember the rule off the top of my head.

    • Not a networking expert but I can see no Merlin support, looks like less RAM, less 2.4Ghz bandwidth, etc. I think for a tri-band, you'd generally want the number to be above 10k, like AXE11000.

      Compared to which one?

      I would say BE88u > AXE7800 > AX6000. BE is wifi 7, AXE is wifi 6e, AX6000 is wifi 6.

      Personally I would skip AXE7800.

    • It's silly to have WiFi 6e with one 2.5gbe wan and no 2.5gbe lan port

      • Yup exactly. I have 2.5g switch connected to 2.5g lan port on my AX6000. It's good to have internal network on 2.5g. Just having a 2.5g on wan is useless if you only have 1gig fibre.

  • I'm in the market for a new wifi router, the AX6000 looks good, I'm also considering the Flint 2, which is cheaper on Amazon.
There is also this WiFi 7 Mercusys one for cheap but I can't find much on it https://www.amazon.com.au/Mercusys-Tri-Band-Directional-Stre…

    • I read somewhere that there is a lower limit of wifi devices that can be connected to Flint 2. I could be wrong so make sure it fits your use case.

    • I've been invested in Asus routers (running Merlin) for years, but decided to go with the Flint 2 due to the costs of Asus networking devices now.

The primary thing I wanted was open source community support which is what I got with the Flint 2 (via OpenWRT). Roughly the same specs as the GT-AX6000 as well.

      • My main question with Flint 2 is that I need two more access points to get coverage over my place and I’m unsure what to use with it that will provide decent roaming between them.

        • Definitely that's where asus wins. If you have old routers you can use AiMesh.

          • @techhit: Be careful using old routers in Aimesh. If they are not of same generation like wifi 5, 6, 6e,7 it will degrade overall performance. Better to have same generation. Look at dong knows website for recommendations.

            • @ace310: Only if you're using a wireless backhaul right? That'll consume a whole band for the mesh network yes.

              • @techhit: Have a read on dong knows AImesh. There is no straight yes and no. wired or wireless it affect the performance in some way if you mix hardware.

          • @techhit: Yeah that's where I'm leaning. They will all be wired access points. The other option is the Nest Wifi Pro which you can get a 3 pack for under $400. Sacrifice on a lot of features that OpenWRT or Merlin bring but it might be worth it just for price.

  • I have an AX86S at the moment that I'm looking to replace as it's semi-frequently dropping the WAN connection.

The BE88U looks good - however does anyone know how it would compare to say the Deco BE65? They're only $615 at the moment for a 2 pack.

    • I could be wrong but overall it is good but some of the features like parental controls might be behind a subscription like home sheild. Do your research.

  • I got this, havent used it yet but its got decent stats being 4500 vs 6000 for the one linked earlier
