Veon 65-Inch Full HD LED TV $999 @ The Warehouse

40

Probably the best Dollar per square inch large TV deal from The Warehouse, price includes free delivery and 3-year warranty. Not 4K but chances are there won't be any decent 4K content in the next few years anyway.

The TV is available for viewing at the Extra stores only.

Not too sure whether it's the cheapest it has ever been. May have seen it for less. Also, if you get the Christmas club card, top it up with the amount needed and you'll get and extra 5% off. Or, use the red warehouse visa card for further 5% off.

I got the previous Warehouse mailers saved as PDF, and I couldn't find the 65-inch at all. The 50 and 55-inch TVs were commonly discounted however, at $600 and $700 respectively.

I think this is the first time the 65-inch is discounted, and at $1000 (or $950 with your tip) it's probably the cheapest way to get a new 60+ inch TV. RRP for the Veon is $2000, and comparable branded 65-inch TVs tend to go for $3000+. Picture quality will be crap but reliability with the Veons should be OK.

      • They had the same deal just before Christmas. It cost us $901.60 (including free delivery) after 2 x 5% off. We ordered one on the 24th and it was delivered by two guys in a truck only a few hours later.

Unfortunately the picture quality was even worse than expected, so we returned it a week later and spent a lot more on a Panasonic.

Our main issue was the incredibly uneven back lighting, but maybe ours was simply faulty. The sound was also terrible, but that can be fixed because these TVs do HDMI ARC.

        • Sorry to hear about that. Sounds like light bleeding on your television. Have a 50'' and a 39" Veon tvs, working well so far. I just hate the sound quality too. And its crazy how they do not have any audio outputs too!

        • That's unfortunate.

    • Theres only been 1 other time this 65inch tv was $999 at the warehouse and that was when they 1st started selling them at around x-mas time last year and after a week it went back up to $1999, Still this is a good deal i have a 40inch veon tv from the warehouse and picture quality is all good but audio is crap so we tested it through our surround sound home theater system and it sounds way better so we have been thinking about getting this 65inch tv and just hook it up to our surround sound speakers in the lounge.

  • I didn't think the Veons were that bad really. They come with the likes of a real glass stand etc which is a nice touch.
The UI is HD and looks ok also.

They are leagues ahead of that older Transonic crap they were peddling.

Be warned though that they don't support discrete input IR commands, so they are extremely difficult to integrate into a Harmony remote type setup, as you can't guarantee 100% that the TV has switched to the right input. Using a receiver is a good way to go though, using the Veon as a display device only, and ever feeding into it via the one input, hdmi 1 etc.

  • Oh yeah, forgot about the sound. It's simply shocking, like really bad.

It's a thing with most new TV's though, as they sacrifice the front side/or bottom mounted speakers in favour of a tiny bevel surround. That sees the speakers relegated to the rear, so none of them sound as good as TV's used to.

That said, the Veons are especially bad. They essentially have to be routed to a receiver to use better speakers, or pay extra for a sound bar (so you pay to get back what they used to give to you on TV's for free!).

    • Yes I agree many newer TVs, as well as cheap TVs like the Veon, suffer from very poor audio. AFAIK the reason for the crap audio is because the TV makers decided that they have to sacrifice audio quality so they can slim down the TVs. However for a 65-inch TV a sound bar is a relatively insignificant cost compared to cost of getting a comparable branded 65-inch, which can be $1000+ more. And even they might not have good audio.

      • Agreed have a decent Samsung TV, and sound is a joke.
Bought a soundbar during the 2014 boxing day sales and am now a happy chap.
Id suggest get matching bar to the TV (veon probably don't do one?) as for me it was literally plug power it and it worked (wireless over bluetooth).
Have a friend who has hung his TV with a mismatched brand bar and he has to have a cable between them and turn them on and off separately.

      • Yep exactly.

If it's stand alone then a soundbar could work, but personally I can't see the point of a 65" TV and not a home theatre surround sound setup to go with it.

At which point you simply don't send any sound signal to the TV at all, and it just becomes a display monitor.

  • Looks like a really good deal. Will check it out tomorrow thanks!!

65" is about as large as you'd want to go to still be on Full HD.
4k is coming quickly, and is more suited to these larger TV screen sizes.
This deal is definitely cheap, no worries there, but worth mentioning all the same.

  • Veon 55" 4k Resolution is going for $1599 atm. Still pricey

    • The 55" is not on special. $1599 is the RRP.

Weekend deal, 20% off Veon TV. But it's still expensive imo

        • Yes I think you're correct, $1999 is the RRP for the 55" 4K TV. The other 55" (The 1080p one) is $600 however.
