  • I saw this in the newsletter this morning. Good deal. Even if they aren't high quality, they should be "good enough", and for 28c/battery - why not?

    I bought 9 packets.

    • +1

At this price I think they're good enough. The best brand is Varta, 30pk for $15 at Bunnings. They're made in Germany.

      • Never been able to justify disposables since getting Eneloops/rechargeables. Any reason in particular to get these instead?

        • Cost. Eneloops ain't cheap, and I don't have enough devices that requires a lot of recharge cycles to make them worthwhile. The only rechargables I use are 2 Eneloops for a LED sensor light in the toilet, 2 Eneloops for my Xbox One controller, and a 18650 for my torch. I don't have a DSLR or battery operated toys, and everything else is powered by inbuilt rechargeable lithium batteries.

However I do have a lot of low drain devices (clocks, remotes, gadgets etc.) that requires AA batteries, and in these cases a 30 cent disposable alkaline is better than a $3 Eneloop. With Dick Smith gone those Eneloops won't get any cheaper.

Finally disposable AAs are great as an emergency backup, because you know they're fresh.

  • New Zealand's eneloop are made in China now. So it's not worth buying those Chinese eneloop. I usually buy Fujitsu or Panasonic rechargeables from Amazon Japan now. They cost about $3.5 each. I still have some varta battery from bunnings they are made in Germany. But in my opinion, Japanese cells are way better than anything else. Make sure this Fujitsu battery are made in Japan. I still have a few made in Japan Fujitsu alkaline left which my wife bought in Tokyo yodobashi camera 6 years ago.

    • The beauty of the DSE Eneloops is they were old enough to still be made in Japan. Glitter and chocolate models. I think the Amazon Basic rechargeables are just rebranded Eneloops, but I'm not sure where they are made.

      • Amazon basic rechargeables are made by Fujitsu in Japan. They are actually rebranded 1st and 2nd generation eneloop with 1000 times.

        • I see, it appears the white labels are Japanese made, and the black are Chinese. Big difference is the reviews too.

        • @Shaw:
I have just had a look. The black ones are made in Japan as well. But 65℅ instead of 70℅ is just advertising. It said made in Japan. So they are made by Fujitsu in Japan. Fujitsu makes eneloop, Panasonic, and Fujitsu, and amazonbasics.
