Bunnings can provide installation, ask the service desk. Or get a quote from Builderscrack.co.nz Expect the installation cost to cost more than the unit however.
IMO it's not worth the hassle of installing a cheap heat pump. Get a Mitsubishi (Electric or Heavy) or Daikin instead. If you absolutely have to go the budget route, get a Gree or TCL as they're the biggest Chinese brands.
Good information, thank you for that. I shall shop around
idk AKAI is a decent Japanese brand though, they make good products in the music industry anyway.
Yeah but 2.5kw is really low. Might be ok for a small room/area. you can get portable AC units with higher kw/btu than this (although the portable ones tend to be louder since the unit is inside, but atleqst they are "portable").
Thing is they might not actually be made by Akai. Like Toshiba TVs sold by dicksmith/kogan are actually rebranded Midea.
IIRC Akai don't make original stuff anymore. Now they plaster their brand onto anything from OEMs willing to pay a license fee.
looks cheap
I thought this was the usual price. I had one installed in a small room last week. It seems to work ok. The guy who installed it said, it wasn't built as good as other brands, but only some little differences. They do cut some corners.
I've got 5Kw Rinnai - Made in japan unit installed through Smart energy solutions on 2 years interest free period! Works great and only take less than 10 minutes to warm up the lounge and 15-20 minutes to to warm up lounge and 2x bedrooms. And cheap as to run as well.
And? Did it cost $499 plus install? I'm trying to work out your point?
Nope installation is always a bit expensive. I think it was around $2500 including installation which is to be paid over 2 years.
Ok. Is clear now that you arent comparing like for like
Not to criticize your choice but a comparable Fujitsu unit could have been had for less than 1.9k installed. Personally I think Fujitsu is more reputable than rinnai in the aircon business.
All good bud, it all depends on your own preference and requirements. :)
In my experience you're looking at $2000-$2500, for a good quality model, "back-to-back" installation, that will deal to a medium'ish sized room.
You do need to consider quality, efficiency, warranty, noise, ergonomics, functionality, and after sales support. This cheap unit from bunnings might meet the cost side of the equation, but what about the rest? I don't know, maybe it is great. But things to consider. I see some come with internet control — i'd be wary, they might be good at air-con but how good are they at stopping hackers gaining access to your home network?
Exactly!
It's really handy to have the WiFi enabled one. I can turn it on/off from anywhere and keep the house warm before entering the house, the feeling of entering from chilling weather to the nice warm house is awesome ;)
Nice! Any recommendations on who to call for installation?
