Anyone know if these are prone to leaking?

I'm guessing they are Chinese, so likely they will, but you never know

    Thanks,

    Alan.

Have to speak up for Alan, I don't know him in person but he is always helpful in good manner and always speak with reference in here, I don't think that's what he mean.

        Hi Leon,

Please calm down for your own sake at least.

You could consider that there is a difference between someone being Chinese, and something coming from China, and therefore also being Chinese.

Most cheap batteries come from China, and many of them leak - it is a simple price / quality issue.

Batteries made in, say, Germany, are generally more expensive, and are less prone to the issue.

China today, is no different than Japan in the sixties (which was making much of the cheap crap then), Taiwan was in the eighties, and Hong Kong was in the nineties. All those countries have moved on, and by the nineties 'made in Japan' was often synonymous with 'the best quality'.

As you highlight, the world could very easily live without Chinese goods of course, and you don't need to be so concerned - it will catch up eventually. I suspect that India will take over much of the current Chinese market share for 'cheap crap' next, and then perhaps Sudan later this century.

        Thanks,

        Alan.

Alan is definitely not a racist, he posts on here all the time, he's super polite with his only weird trait being that he ends his post with his name but whatever that's just his style (sorry Alan, had to bring that up <3)

He's only questioning something which is established, that often Chinese goods are of low quality, people generally associate Chinese goods with "lower quality" and it's a very reasonable question for him to ask. This isn't a racist take and anyone who's hung out on cheapies knows there are plenty of good quality Chinese goods coming out but it varies and it would be incredibly stupid and naive to just assume "ALL GOODS FROM CHINA ARE GREAT" because you don't want to "seem racist". Speaking from my two decades of purchasing goods directly from China, the quality is generally getting better these days but there's still issues, so it's wise to ask for user feedback.

Next time don't leap to judge someone so quickly.

Have literally been using Chinese batteries for all of my life and never have I experienced any leaking or anything like that.

After all, for Chinese products, just like all others, you get what you've paid for.

    • Just might be lucky i have experienced this but im sure for most devices they will work fine. i normally use Jaycar Eclipse ones they have a good power to price ratio compared to Energizer etc

I have used very cheap batteries and had a number of devices wrecked by leaking batteries (bicycle light, keyboard etc…) . I have a few devices at work that I just noticed leakage from the battery compartment. Almost always very cheap $ store type batteries. Haven't had any issue with SuperCheap batteries (although haven't used massively). The big issue is low drain, infrequently used devices. Remove the batteries if not using for extended periods.

      Hi 2Cheap,

Yes - you are completely correct.

I always intend to remove batteries from devices if they won't be used for a while, but often I seem to fail to anticipate that in advance :-)

The last time I bought batteries on a 'deal' they were Eneloop, so completely different type and price point (but still a bargain at the time if I recall correctly).

The time before that they were Varta, and those have been great - no leakage so far, but always possible I will open up something in a few years and find otherwise.

I don't believe I've ever bought SCA branded batteries before, and hence a degree of caution seems appropriate.

      Thanks,

      Alan.

+1 for the Varta, often on sale at Bunnings. Also thanks for your always helpful input Alan, I appreciate it.

        Thanks,

        Not Alan.

Now I'm going to get self-concious about signing off!

          Thanks-very-much.

          Alan.

  • these batteries are only good for low powered devices like tv remotes calculators little portable radios ect

your better off buying 1.5v rechargeable batteries i have some that take 15-20mins to charge and last a good amount of time had them for 4years

Lol your opinion is the total opposite from what the website says -

"Alkaline battery suitable for high power demand devices under frequent and long power usage.
Ideal for motorised toys, electronic games, torches and cameras"

  • FYI expiry is Oct 2025 on batteries I got

    • Same here
