    1080p :-/

    • It's good enough for gaming higher resolution does not mean good unless you can see pixels on fhd if not 1080 p with good colour gamut ie 74 % more Adobe RGB plus high refresh is good enough .

Most games are 720 to 1080p playable on good rendering

    what a deal

Great deal in NZ, however even in Australia, something with a 5800/3060 is around 1700-1800 absolute tops when on a 'deal'.

[Have been scouring a lappy for a friend whose moved across the ditch on OzB].

Best idea is to grab a holiday overseas and hopefully pick up a deal good enough to pay for the flights :).

    • Yup we get shafted bad $200-$500 just for being in NZ, I mean yeah $50-100 extra for shipping/storage here compared to Aus seems reasonable but most of the time we get screwed bad.

      • GST here is 5% higher too but yes we get screwed bad. Should make a point to fly return and get media attention for it, iirc someone did it to protest Adobe(flew from AUS to US return and still saved decent money over buying the software licence locally).

  • Will this be updatavle to Win 11? Does it have TPM 2.0?

  • Only possible con is the lid hinge. Older style that was prone to cracking on the previous models.

  • PBtech has an Acer Nitro 5 with same specs for about the same price too.

The acer nitro 5's build quality is quite poorly considered by users and reviewers alike. Its the budget end of Acers gaming lineup.

Whilst the specs are similar between the legion 5 and nitro, laying $100 more for worse build quality and probably a worse display as well, is not the play.

If you go with acer, the helios or triton have far superior build quality and thermals - me, my brother and my friend all had nitros from 2017 to 2018, and all had huge issues, which after further investigation online seem simply inevitable. These types of issues are worth a huge amount of money - you don't want the hassle nor the necessity of dealing with warranties and issues and buying a new laptop rather soonish, especially when you are dropping a decent chunk of change.

I have a helios 300 and the only issue its had have been a very normal one - replace the thermal paste after a good year of use. Its an amazing piece of tech, and most nitro users are not able to say the same.

Build quality is very important. Some lines are more expensive, but sometimes this cost isn't profit but an investment in things that help the components do their job well, for the medium and long term.

  • Just ordered one - hope it's a winner - also used Kiwiwallet to get cashback, which brings it down even further!
