  • Do you know if either dicksmith or kogan or neither will be considered as NZ company? checking for the consideration of the TAX and whether consumer guarantee act will be relevant?

    • Probably not as they are AU/HK based but do have specific products warehoused in NZ.

CGA probably will not apply and there will be no GST as they are already registered with IRD + Customs.

      • That is good then.

      • Great thanks, just bought a spit roaster and saved almost 100 dollars shipping

  • Thanks Wakrak!

Are Dicksmith and Kogan essentially the same stores/companies?

    • Yes, Kogan bought the husk of Dick Smith after it shut down. Kogan also bought Mightyape

Thanks NeM2k2! Didn't know that about Mightyape.

        • Mightyape haven't changed too much yet but that will probably change over time.

Whereas Kogan and DSNZ have almost identical items, eg search "gaming laptop" on both and you get the same items and instock status

  • On a different note, it's interesting how all the ads I see now are the items I browsed on Dicksmith and Kogan website, replacing the earlier Kathmandu ones.

    • That's the power of Google adsense

  • Just be aware they raise the prices on most of the items when they have "Free Shipping"

Eg it's normally not really free shipping

I've been eyeing up a weighty purchase for a few weeks now, both in price and KG's, and the price hasn't changed with this free shipping promo. To not pay $120 shipping on what s already a very well priced $1000 item I've very tempted. Now its a case of getting over my want vs. need conundrum.

What's the item that you're eyeing up?

Just wanted to confirm they do increase prices on some items, but some they do not. I have a spreadsheet of things I'm planning on buying for my new house and have a few from DSE/Kogan and other sites and have the price listed from before this sale and some have kept the pricing and some have gone up but not enough to ruin the free shipping. Like airfryers $50 for shipping, no price change. Bulbs, $7 increase in price shipping $5 previously.

The other sneaky move is "selling out" of some brand items which magically return to stock 24 hours after the free shipping promotion ends.

      • That happened to me with an item I was eyeing up at Briscoes last weekend. The $10 off + free shipping codes was good to go then the item I was going to buy disappeared. Then reappeared 24 hours after the sale ended and vouchers expired. I'm not sure if it was just a coincidence or not though.
