    • Every drive fails. 100% of hard drives will die, regardless of who manufacturers them. Just the luck of the draw as to how long they last. I've got 10+ year old Seagate consumer drives still going strong, as well as other brands.

        This is a very good point but to add more to this, I usually review the BackBlaze Quarterly report which can give you an overview of how reliable or not a particular size, brand of hard drives.
        For this drive, they currently have a 1.74% Average Failure Rate (out of 4,857 drives running for 314,266 days combined) - I feel like this is a good test size for reliability.
