Prece beat at Mitre 10 for an addition 15% off, if you can find a matching product, e.g. Soda Stream gas

    • Just note that online briscoes will show 30% off, so you will need to show briscoes instore price to make it worth it

    • Yep Briscoes 50% off day means Sodastream refill day for me haha.

Just of interest, for Sodastream gas cylinder and Mitre 10 price beat, this only applies for new cylinders and NOT refill/swap?

Because there's no online product page nor in-store-on-the-shelf-price label for refill/swap at Briscoes?

NB: Assuming Briscoes 50% off Refill price is still $13.50 (last valid April 2024), 15% off is $2.025 saving, if above works.

What's the coffee machine that everyone always raves about in these sales?

    • +3

      Bes870

      • How about this one no grinder but the espresso performance is similar to any big machines and this is also instant bes450bss

        • +1

recommend bambino + separate grinder if that is an option, otherwise BES870 is a good starter machine.

        • +1

I don't own a BES870, but I've heard the built-in grinder is lacking in quality.
Grind quality is extremely important when making good espresso. If I were choosing between those two machines, I would opt for the BES450BSS, upgrade to a non-pressurised basket, and invest in espresso capable grinder.

Source: deep in the espresso rabbit hole

          • @Bargain-Hunter: What do you recommend for a good budget grinder?

I've got a Sunbeam EM0440 as a cheapo entry level burr grinder but I'm sitting at the finest grind setting and don't think the grind is very consistent.

I've got a Delonghi EC680 which as far as I can tell is considered pretty comparable to the Bambino

            • @SrsSarcasM: Do you have a budget in mind?
Also, are you primarily interested in espresso, or do you also need it to be capable of grinding for filter coffee?

              • @Bargain-Hunter: Under $300 maybe? Just espresso

                • @SrsSarcasM: The Dose Control Pro is good value for $200; however, keep in mind that this is not a stepless grinder.
Better espresso grinders are stepless, which allows for more fine-tuning when dialing in a shot. You might think that 30 steps in the Dose Control Pro is a lot, but it's not when considering that you will only be using a small portion of the dial for espresso.

If this matters to you, I would recommend the Eureka Manuale from espressocoffeeshop.com. Request a discount code, and iirc it should be around $380 delivered.

            • @SrsSarcasM: We are happy with the Breville dose control pro that they often sell for $200. At this level of machine it does what it needs to and was a step up from our basic Bodum grinder we used to use.

            • @SrsSarcasM: you can reshim the grinder to be tighter. i had the same or similar and found something on coffeegeeks (i think) about reshimming the grinder tighter.

    Wow, this hardly ever happens!

    • Yup, 50% off everything is more unique

  • Do you think there will be a discount on dyson v8?

  • Where did you see this advertised OP?

    • +2

They've ads for it running on TV this evening.

      • +1

Cheers. I don’t watch much live TV so that explains it!

        • Same here cheapies is my only source of deals for now

  • I'll pop into my local branch on Salisbury st. Car parks usually choka on sale day, see what kind of crowds turn up tomorrow.

    • +2

That sounds great. I will also be popping in to that store as it is my local. Can we get a photo together to share in the group and show unity?

  • any good buys from people ? i was thinking the dyson v10…

    • V8 is better IMHO since you can use power tool batteries with cheap adapters

      • V8 is lighter, more friendly with kids, they like to play with them, and guess what, the house is clean without any effort. lol

        • I agree i have v8 it's just the right balance size and suitable for kids ,

      • You can do this with v10 as well.

    • +1

I got it from Briscoes from 522 by price best from Noel Leeming

      • I bought the v10 for $600 then called Briscoes and quoted the Noel Leemings price $579 and they applied their price guarantee dropping it to $521. Great deal! Thanks all!

        • +2

Just reading my comment again and I realize it doesn't make much sense. I'm glad you still figured it out. I was awake all night as my child was born so my brain was totally foggy. I desperately needed one so I sneaked out of hospital for 15 mins to get it from Briscoes by applying their price guarantee.

  • Is it a good time to buy the dyson v8?

    • I got the v10 Animal for my parents but 2nd hand from Trademe. Came with extra accessories and stand, etc. All that for $400. I'd say it's still cheaper to just get a 2nd hand, then you can get a new 3 pack filter for $10 from Temu. Very easy to replace filter, takes 2 mins. And it's easy to clean the inside as well.

      • I just clean my filter… am I meant to be replacing it once in a while?

        • +1

You are supposed to clean it but eventually, after a few years, you'll just to replace it.

        • +1

I just clean my filter… am I meant to be replacing it once in a while?

We just wash ours out, and leave to dry naturally - it will last years easily, even with five humans and two animals in the house!

No idea about the quality / effectiveness of the ones from Temu, but after four years, ours is fine, so I don't have to find out yet.

        • Cleaning it sometimes doesn't fix the filter flashing light on the status indicator. I found that it's best to do a deep clean every once in a while, which means taking apart the whole thing (including the inner components inside the dust bin) and then use an air compressor or a portable air duster to blow the dust out.

The filter is really cheap anyway, so I usually just replace it after every 6 months or so. I'll clean it and rinse it under the tap for a couple of times and then I'll just swap it out for a new one completely after 6 months.

  • I just bought a breville barista express impress last month and realised I also need to buy the cleaning stuff for the machine too. There are so many cleaners, can anyone tell me what I ACTUALLY need? I know I need the residue cleaning tablets. But do I need the liquid descaler and milk frother cleaner?

    • +1

Definitely need descaler every once in a while

    • +1

Use Sodium Percarbonate. My brother has a flash Rocket coffee machine and that's the stuff they get from Espresso Ninja. Find it in bulk and it's a lot cheaper.

For milk frother/water tank you can use white vinegar. It's acidic so it will help remove scale and any alkaline build ups.

The Beginner’s Guide to Coffee Machine Maintenance
first 10 mins is for espresso machines

    • +1

I just use citric acid to desclaling. Way cheaper and works a treat.

    • +1

Look up cafetto / cafiza 1kg cleaning powders. Same substance as the breville tablets, but way cheaper, and will last you forever.

    • +1

Had my Barista express coming up 4 years, and always used these products. If you clean it when it asks, and take care of the machine, you wont have issues

      I use the following;

Yes there are others out there, and cheaper ways to do things, but for me, these work great

  • Partner is looking for a good smoothie maker, heard the nutribullets aren't too good, and the last one went bang, any picks from briscoes? : )

    • I got the nutri ninja auto iq one.
I can't find it at Briscoes
      https://www.briscoes.co.nz/product/1105183/ninja-blender-foo…

    • Haha, I was looking at the Nutribullets last night as well. The reviews looked great, until you sort by lowest reviews to highest and then you find they all seem to have the same problem, regardless of the model and wattage. It seems there's motor oil leaks and after about a year, things start to fall apart.

  • +6

Everyone please ensure you compare prices elsewhere first. I’ve noticed alot of appliances have gone up in prices hugely (for the 50% discount).

    • This is the sort of practice they've been doing for years. Not just them specifically either.

  • Anyone can recommend me things to buy that would actually be useful? I'm currently all set and have everything I need, I'm not sure what to buy to be honest. I'll be stocking up on some Sodastream stuff but that's about it. Might actually be a good time for me to start saving money for once.

  • I have noticed the online exclusives are actually 50% off, not 30% as advertised.

    • Worth getting in early before they change it!

      • they just fixed the prices as i was about to order a vitamix for 50% off, its now 0% off… lmao

edit: nvm the price is back to $415 down from $830 so its working again!

        • It's now full.price, I was going to buy one last night but couldn't be bothered finding my wallet, went to order now and price has no discount.

          • @taeken: oh man that is strange, it seems they had put it back on sale and have removed it once again, i'd keep an eye on it incase it drops again

edit: they just updated the price again its now 30% off RIP

  • Anyone know/ able to find the link for Sodastream refill price on Briscoes? I could only find the "new cannister purchase" option instead of the refill online and it seems a bit wasteful to buy new cannisters.

    • +1

They don't have the refills online unfortunately.

  • ok the vitamix is back to 50% off its a good deal

edit: they just changed it to 30% off RIP

  • Are the nespressos a good price? Can anyone recommend a decent nespresso for a casual coffee drinker?

    • Honestly you're not going to notice any difference in your coffees by buying a more expensive Nespresso machine, they're all much of a muchness for most coffee drinkers, you're mainly paying for the aesthetics and some quality of life improvements in more expensive models, so buy the cheapest one that uses the standard Nespresso pods and has the features you want.

I'd check Trade Me first, lots of people buy these things then hardly ever use them. We picked up a boxed near new one with the separate milk frother for $40 off there, do a descale cycle and you're good to go.

    • I've had 2 replaced.
Bought the basic one, it eventually died.
Replaced for free with fancier model, it eventually died.
      On the third now.

Nespresso had no issues providing a new machine and provide a sendback ticket etc for free.
They want you to have a machine to keep buying coffee.

Unsure how they handle second hand machines, but I wouldn't buy second hand just because I've had so many of them replaced.
Got https://www.briscoes.co.nz/product/1095534/nespresso-vertuo-… when it came with free coffee, note that you cant buy supermarket pods like the other version.

      • Thanks for the advice

      • When you say ‘eventually’ died and they gave you a new feee machine, how old exactly were the machines?

        • -1

          8-12 months roughly.
          1-2 coffees daily

          • @Foodie: Ah ok. I would expect a replacement under 12 months old no questions asked.

      • I went through a phase of pod machines. The less automated the Nespresso, the more robust. For example, the U Milk model would clamp on the pod and eject it afterwards automatically. These had an almost guaranteed 1 year life span before an 'intentionally' flimsy part broke. Those where the consumer clamps and ejects the pod using leverage never failed in that time.

        • Issue ive had is pumps and heating element. The second one just got no power to it at all.

  • Anyone know if you can use the price promise twice?
I purchased a bunch of Shower Cleaner Spray & Walk Away's for $6.99 each on 6 July, then it went on sale for $5.99 so went back and got my $1 each back on 13 July. Now it's on sale for $5, so thinking of going back tomorrow morning for another $0.99 each. ;-)
Price Promise has to be within 14 days, so it would just be within the 14 days…

    • if you have the time, why not? :)

    • +5

Will it not cost you more in fuel than the refund to pop into the store?

  • Brother GS2700 sewing machine was 50% off ($220) at 8am this morning even though it was an online only item.

Decided to buy it at 9am but they updated it to only 30% off ($307) cry cry cry… Still going to buy it but it doesn't feel as good!

  • Anyone have one of this and any good? Sunbeam Iced & Hot Coffee Machine

  • Arggg, this is so confusing, breville express or impress???

    • And black or silver model 😂

    • I just went through that last month. They are pretty much the same machine, but impress has more grinds dials and auto tamping. I am lazy and all I want is a good coffee, so I went with impress. Price match with Noel Leeming for $899 and they had a promotion giving $250 gift card for spending over $899. So pretty good price.

      • Makes sense, i have 2 small daughters so i am pretty busy as well in my day to day life but love to have perfect coffee each time, so i guess an extra $110 on impress will be well worth it. I even watched in some youtube video, i can still use impress manually like express if i want to work on my tempering skills. Now the question is whether i should get silver model or the black one of impress. My kitchen and living room is quite light coloured creme (or white), splashback is grey though

        • Silver is standard and would go well everywhere. Black is very stealthy, quite nice and would look good too. I personally rate black as it's different from most appliances, and you won't be able to tell how dirty it is compared to the Silver 😉

          • @BananaMeadow: I have seen in some comments that silver shows alot of finger prints and black doesn’t. Is that true?

        • After using it for 3 weeks now, I am so glad I didn't go with express. It would have been too much work for me. Even buying milk (I don't drink milk normally) and look for fresh roasted coffee beans feel like chores to me 🤦‍♀️

Thank you for posting the question on the forum, after reading all the comments and googling. I think impress is definitely a better fit for me. I went with the silver as its more timeless than others. Black is trendy now lo.

          • @Superpower21: Thanks mate, appreciate it. I will be buying mine this weekend 😊

I found out there is brivelle app which uses AI to help you decide how different color machines will look in your kitchen, will give that a go tomorrow ti decide on the color.

Are you experiencing alot of finger prints clearly visible on silver machine??

            • @offroad: No finger prints at all, just some water spots but doesn't bother me. I went to NL again today to price match all the cleaning stuff and used my $250 gift card on them. So happy with my coffee this morning I felt I am willing to go through the chores for the perfect coffee 😂 If you don't end up buying it this weekend, wait for NL $250 gift card promotion.

              • @Superpower21: I will go tomorrow to buy impress most probably a black one. I see jbhifi and noel leeming also offering sane price, so i will pick from any closer store that has stock. What beans do u recommend?
