One thing that has always puzzled me is that their direct flight (i.e. China Eastern Auckland to Shanghai $1100 return) is much more expensive than transfer via Shanghai (e.g. China Eastern Auckland - Shanghai - Shenzhen $500 return). It does not make sense from a cost perspective as I travel for longer for less. Same with Hainan Airline: Auckland -Shenzhen return is more expensive than Auckland - another city return via Shenzhen. It's like Sydney - Wellington (via Auckland) is cheaper than Sydney - Auckland —- It will never happen for AirNZ.
